Dear Shri Sinhaji,
I have gone through the mail sent by Mr. Vishwanathan, Mr. Juneja, Mr. Vidur and Mr. Bhagat expressing their views about the conference to be organized by the Central Office. I entirely agree with them and is also of the view that the Central Office should take care of the units rather than organizing the events. The history of The Textile Association clearly shows that Central Office used to share the responsibility of the All India Conference hosted by various units. I recollect that all the Office Bearers including the National President use to get totally involved to assist and guide the unit in various activities for the success of the conference. The best examples I recollect is the 1989 Golden Jubilee Conference under the leadership of Shri Poddarji, 1994 Golden Textile Conference by Shri Sushil Sain, 1999 the 55th All India Textile Conference by Shri R. K. Dalmia and 2004 Diamond Jubilee Conference by Cav. M. S. Mathivanan. You yourself and all senior members will agree with me that this was the excellent team work between the Central Office and Mumbai Unit which has created records in the history of the Textile Association.
I now compare the present situation especially past two All India Conferences, hosted by Nagpur and Karnataka Unit with the above past events. Both the Units struggled a lot to collect the funds, sponsorships and delegates and Central Office never helped them for organizing the event. I think the Central Office leadership should take the initiative and go well in advance to discuss and look after the arrangements made by the respective units. The Central Office gets Levy of 25% of the profit from the Unit and hence it is their duty to assist the units for organizing the conference. I am sorry to state that the Central Office Bearers are only interested in seating on the dais and take the unnecessary credit from the host unit. In Bangalore, five of the office bearers occupied the dais and representatives from the Karnataka Unit were sitting in the audience. I think we should stop this procedure with immediate effect and only National President should be on the dais and give the chance to the organizing committee of the respective unit to be on the dais.
I represent Mumbai Unit for the last 52 years, but have never seen the miserable condition of this unit to collect the sponsorships for their event to be held on 12th February 2016. I entirely put the blame for this on the central office for organizing WTC I, Bangkok Conference, announcement of Jakarta conference and now the forthcoming WTC II conference in 2016, and GTC in 2017. You will appreciate that the Office Bearers of the Central Office are initially the members of the Mumbai Unit and they are trying to put Mumbai Unit in tremendous financial crises. These types of activities are creating unnecessary rift and misunderstanding between the members of the Mumbai Unit which is visible during the last 3-4 months incidences.
I therefore strongly recommend that Central Office should not organize any conference and help the unit to successfully arrange All India Textile Conference. I also request all the GC members and the Office Bearers to express their views on this issue and support me in my compaign “No Conference by Central Office”.
This point should be discussed in the next GC and the corrective measurers should be taken for the conference to be hosted by the MP Unit, Indore. As far as the financial assistance to the Central Office is concerned the same can be discussed in the GC.
I request you to consider this letter very seriously and come back to me with a reply for which I will be grateful to you.
Thanking you and with regards
Yours sincerely,
M. B. Nambiar

Subject: Re: Activities of the Central Office – WTC IIDear Mr.Sinha,
It’s nice to see you again as a National President of TAI for the term 2015-17 and for sure we all look forward for a professional image of TAI in global level and also domestic level by virtue of increasing the membership (which is always given a last priority by the Office bearers and in every GC meetings which is more of infighting) and activities in all the Units which are spread in different parts of India.
This has reference to the letter from TAI Mumbai Unit, your reply, views of Mr.Juneja & Mr.Vishwanathan. Though, Mumbai Unit has sent a copy to all the Units as well as the GC Members, your reply copy is not marked to the GC Members who are part of the Central Body representing the Units of TAI.
Everyone will appreciate the idea of the GTC and WTC, but at the same time we should not fail to understand the importance of functioning by the Units in a professional and financially sound to conduct conferences, workshops, lectures etc., within stipulated norms and the parental support by the Centre.
To hold the GTC or WTC, TAI being a national association of technocrats, research scholars, academicians and management professionals, no particular educational institution or organisation should be given the importance as knowledge partners. It can be a joint venture with industry/commerce associations. You know that all of us are graduates of different institutions in India and abroad, but at the same all of us have our own positions/status in the profession. Image building of the TAI not only depends on the persons holding the positions in TAI and also the individual’s image in the profession/industry is also important as and when we go in to a forum representing TAI.We all should note the feelings of all the Units suffering due to the parallel authority to run the conferences by both Central Body as well as Units. You are aware that the two conferences of Nagpur & Bengaluru (held recently); it was a virtual running around for the financial help.
I had the opportunity to work under Shri.R.P.Poddarji and Mr.Sushil Sen. during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in 1988-89. All the units were asked to have one programme during this year and we in Mumbai organized 2 seminars and a lecture on 9th of every month. The Golden Jubilee celebrations were combination of the Golden Jubilee of TAI and 45th All India Textile Conference Mumbai Unit being the host unit. Same thing followed in the 50th All India Textile Conference (named as Golden Conference), Diamond Jubilee and by the host Units.
I am sure all will agree that the present Bye laws which was formed by our TAI Founder Members needs a change(ofcourse it's still in the process) as per the changing scenarios in the profession and the industry.Agree with the views expressed by M/s.Juneja, Vishwanathan and probably few more may or may not come to you.
During the 1st GC Meeting which was held in Bengaluru, the same issue could have been resolved based on the letter from Mumbai Unit.
Looking in to the various unprofessional infighting between some of the Units & Central office, happenings and the exchange of chain of mails by members(this type of happenings started from the election of President & Vice President in Kolkata GC Meeting and election), the suggestion is that a GC Meeting should be called at the earliest and Central Office being the host, sort out the misunderstandings and set a clear cut norms for the Units as well as the Central Office. Last but not the least is to identify the active, sincere and has a capacity to handle the issues and not just by few individuals/groups who discuss themselves to decide who’s whom to be as office bearers.
With regards & best wishes.
K.L.VidurGC Member-Mumbai Unit.

I entirely agree with Mr Juneja on the points raised. The Central Office sitting in Mumbai has all the wherewithal to collect sponsorship at the cost of units.Sponsors give more weight to Central office than the units. If this continues, time will come when Central office will conduct conferences every year and deprive the chance to units. If this happens may be central office should hold conferences and share their earnings with the units, without the units having to undergo the pains of holding the conferences. The whole idea of units conducting conferences to spread knowledge throughout the country will be defeated and making money ill be the only criterion.
These are my views. Thanks, T L Viswanathan

My views are :
- In the past, except last few years, Central office never organised such conferences and that also without consent of unit where it is being organised.
- In past, some conferences such as ATC etc. were organised by Central office but in due consent & partenership with concerned unit.
- Due to organsation of such conferences, TAI annual conference is loosing its charm & reputation. Example is last two conferences at Nagpur & Bangalore.
- May be time will come, no unit will show interest to hold annual conference.
- It is prime duty & responsibilty of the central office to guide & support all units.
- Due to such one sided decision and activities of Central office, relation between Central office & units are being deterioratign.
- No individual or group have power to take unilateral decision.
- It should be discussed in current GC before proceeding further.
- Our forthcoming TAI annual conference at Indore should be organised at such leval in partnership with Indore unit.

We understand that you are planning to have this event in September / October 2016 in Mumbai as per your announcement in the GC meeting held at Bangalore on 21st January 2016.We appreciate that you have agreed to Mr. V. C. Gupte’s suggestion in Bangkok to avoid conflict of interest by organizing conferences in Mumbai. You will agree that if you organize WTC II in Mumbai there will be conflict of interest between the two offices. As informed to you earlier WTC I, Bangkok Conference and announcement of Jakarta Conference have given a great set back to the activities of Mumbai Unit in terms of sponsorship's and financial assistance from various corporates. We are finding extremely difficult to collect the funds for our 12th February 2016 conference. The outside agencies do not understand the difference between the Central Office and the Mumbai Unit and they keep on arguing that we have given the sponsorship's to the Textile Association. We therefore request you to kindly take Mumbai Unit into confidence before declaring the date and venue for WTC II and do not organise the same in Mumbai atleast. We request you as WTC I was organized in Mumbai, you can organize WTC II in any other suitable location, but definitely not in Mumbai. As stated earlier the role of the Central Office is to guide and take care of the units all over India, but this WTC II will make Mumbai Unit difficult to survive in future. As mentioned by you in your letter dated 8th January Central Office and all Units are dedicated to the welfare of the Textile Association, but this type of conflict of interest will definitely harm the unit level activities and hence we request you not to announce this event. We are sending this mail to all the units for their comments in this regard. The Office Bearers once again request you not to announce and organize this event in Mumbai, to spoil the relationship between two offices as all of you are also integral part of Mumbai Unit. We request you that before making any official announcement of WTC II, we look forward to meet and discuss this issue.Your confirmation in this regard is requested.Thanking you,For The Textile Association (India), Mumbai UnitC. Dear Mr. C. Bose / T.K. Sengupta / V.C. Gupte / A. This is initiated on the suggestions of large business houses and also the educational institutions who wants us to bring many new subjects in the conference hence this initiative.Overseas Conferences will be organized under the title of Global Textile Congress and Domestic Conference will have the name of World Textile Congress. We are always very careful on this matter and during the Bangkok Conference we had very clear understanding with Shri V.C. Gupte to avoid any conflicts of interest. As we proceed in this matter we will have more discussions and you are always part of our team.Central office and all units is dedicated to the Welfare of Textile Association as a lead organization. In case you have any further queries please feel free to let us know.
Sincere regards and best wishes to all of you.Arvind SinhaFrom: The Textile Association (I), Mumbai Unit [mailto:taimum...@gmail.com]

You are aware that Mumbai Unit always organizes its conference parallel to the schedule of India ITME exhibition in Mumbai. Accordingly we have already planned the International Conference closer to the date of ITME schedule. The WTC II in Mumbai will definitely affect our planning and it will be difficult to get the sponsorships for our event. We therefore request Central Office to kindly organize conferences out of India, so that all the Units in India will be able to go ahead with their fund raising conference events. We would like to mention here that due to the Jakarta event planned by Central Office we were not able to get the support for our Exhibition planned in March 2016 which ultimately has to be cancelled. The Central Office had already organized WTC I in Mumbai and hence request you to take WTC II to any international venue. We therefore request to you to please go ahead with your Jakarta Conference in the year 2017 and do not organize any event in Mumbai henceforth which makes Mumbai Unit very difficult to generate the revenue for its survival.A line in confirmation in this regard is requested.Thanking you,For The Textile Association (India), Mumbai UnitC.
