Iwould like to add IPTV channels that is currently configured in PVR IPTV Client on KODI to broadcast like a virtual tuner, so I can add it to Plex Live TV & DVR for Plex Pass. I read that there is a way to make the IPTV channels running on KODI via OSMC to look like a HDHomeRun tuner to the Plex DVR setup.
There are a number of things that can help with this, for example tvhproxy (GitHub - jkaberg/tvhProxy: An small flask app to help Plex DVR connect with Tvheadend) or antennas (GitHub - jfarseneau/antennas: ?HDHomeRun emulator for Plex DVR to connect to Tvheadend.) both of which will feed tvheadend to plex as if it was a hdhomerun.
Maybe your team can develop a proxy tuner addon for OSMC that allows the existing media box browser to broadcast to Plex like TVH and Telly proxy does. Since I can already access my iptv channels via the OSMC media browser from any device in my house, why not add a feature for it to connect to Plex like a virtual tuner?
We have discussed that this is possible with various proxy tuners that can emulate a physical tuner. So I am hoping to understand whether this can be done with the in-store TVH server or if I need to install an offsite bundle of TVH along with a proxy add-on to achieve this.
I am currently able to stream IPTV channels from my OSMC media browser page by setting up PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on. Supposedly, TVH is able to accomplish the same thing with IPTV channel m3u links.
I had dropped back plexserver version, but I went back a couple more to version 1.32.6.7468-07e0d4a7e. It seems to be working now but I was only able to try manual recordeings, not scheduled recordings.
I chose the cheapest model, the FLEX DUO because I have lots of USB hard drives lying around, so why pay for internal storage? The downside of this model is that it does not come with the first year of DVR service free, a $35 value. Kind of a bummer, but there it is.
Judging by the channels my unit found, the HDHomeRun tuner quality is excellent. It found all of the channels that I watch normally, including some that my other DVRs failed to find. Other reviewers online have also praised the HDHomeRun tuner.
First of all, there was no mention of DVR functionality in the included quickstart guide of my FLEX DUO (perhaps something is included with the SCRIBE model?). The web portal does have a link for installation instructions. There, I clicked the button for instructions for recording live TV and got to this page:
Instead, opened a ticket with SiliconDust to confirm that I really did need a subscription to use the DVR feature, and they sent me a link to their DVR page which led me to where I could buy the subscription. Again, it would have been nice if the app had told me that or if there had been a sheet of paper in the box with that link!
You can get around some of the limitations of the HD HomeRun by using third-party software such as Plex, which has a lifetime deal, or NextPVR, which is free. Not only can you save money, but some let you view your recordings remotely.
SiliconDust offers great hardware and a great viewing experience with their HDHomeRun app. However, their app does not work when you are away from home. Some third-party apps have this feature though.
The product (at least the FLEX DUO that I bought) is also hampered by a lack of documentation on how to set up the DVR functionality, whether in the box, online, or in their app. This problem could be fixed by including an extra sheet of paper with the product!

I have both DishNetwork and a legacy Tablo. I want to get rid of dish but like the rewind feature that dish has with no wait on live programming. The legacy Tablo has a rewind feature but is slow and much more difficult to maneuver then dish. Is hdhomerun rewind of live programming similar to dish with no wait, etc.?
That is not what I am asking. I understand that I cannot rewind past the point at which I started watching. With my legacy Tablo if the program is live or still being recorded no window appears when I rewind the program. Once the legacy Tablo has the program recorded a window appears to let me know how far it is rewinding. The window only appears after a program is recorded. On my Dish the rewind wind appears even if live. Does a window appear on rewind to let me know how far on a live program or live recording with a HD HomeRun?

Okay, the best way would for you to simple pull the image when its updated on docker hub.
You should be able to update in-container, but it might ruin the container, and also wont persist if you redeploy the container.
Plex users, with an active plexpass subsciption, can use an image which specificly downloads and installs the latests (ubuntu) package when the container is (re)started. The official Plex image was developed with the guys from
linuxserver.io. Though, official support in the Plex forum is only provided for the official image.
Hi there is no free trial although it's something we need to improve in the future.
Yes you can run side by side with the other server without having to allocate tuners.
Yes the space is sufficient, and we can direct play mpeg2 on any device that natively supports it.
Plex is a bad neighbor. It doesn't play fair about tuners sharing. It assumes that it is the only one using the tuner devices. However, since you have 2 tuner devices, add your second device first in emby. The idea is to use 1 device as primary in Plex and the second as primary in emby. After that, you need to be careful with the schedule recordings. It's the way I setup emby and plex on the same machine (2 hdhomerun devices). I did not have any issue that way.
Are you saying to don't have to provision (tell) EMBY which tuners it's allowed to use and the channels that can be received for each tuner????? That's why I was confused a bit by the previous post on sharing
By this reply, I have to assume that the way it works with Hauppauge Quad PCI cards is different with HDhomerun. With HDhomerun tuners, in plex, I can't specifiy what tuners it can use or not neither with emby. However, there is a difference between plex and emby. Plex pre-select the tuner at schedule time. Emby doesn't do that. So plex, if that specific tuner is not available, the recording fail. with emby, it will request a tuner, if it's denied, it will try another one until there is no other tuners to try.
Plex will use 3 tuners just fine but the problem happens when Plex tries to use the 4th tuner. It will expect it to be available on PCI1. When it can't allocate the tuner it "errors out". Plex won't try PCI2 which still has 4 tuners available.
This is just the DUMB way Plex wrote their software. It's double worse when you consider that Plex is supposed to work with NETWORK tuners. Network tuners by their very definition are network devices and should be able to be shared.
With Emby you can run NextPVR, HDHomeRun or any other program that can use a tuner. Emby will just try the "next" tuner until all tuners are in use. Plex "dies" when it can't access all tuners in order. You could have 4 PCI boards or 4 Quatros (with 16 total tuners) and plex will balk as soon as it hits the 4th tuner on PCI1 if a tuner there is in use! POOR, SLOPPY PROGRAMMING.
This issue with Plex was well known before a single customer every got their hands on it. I and other Ninjas who had early access for testing brought this to the devs attention right away. Same with not being able to easily mix OTA and cable tuners or the ability to use multiple EPGs.
It's always been fine with using all tuners on the first device. It just wouldn't roll over to the next device. If for example you had 4 HRHomeRun devices then if Plex was blocked from using tuner #3 on device 1 it would fail vs trying device 2 or device 3. So any other program that used a tuner could screw things up. Also if a device had a hickup or bad cable it would just kill the tv/dvr service since it wouldn't fail over to the next device.
