Man, it's like a ordering a textbook with mouth open at all the information one person puts on just one page...I am extremely lucky to have had Tiffany Tamaribuchi as my teacher when I started taiko. Amazing wealth of knowledge. I would love to subscribe to a "Tiffany on Taiko" podcast.
Sweet holy taiko concept Art Lee! A taiko podcast!!! Is there anyone doing this? Or who has access to equipment? I know someone in Philly who has a good podcast set-up, but I'm in Philadelphia and most of the taiko talent isn't around here...
Hehe, it isn't my concept, it was Stanley N Shikuma, but yes it is a great concept. We (Tokara) have a podcast on itunes, one audio and one video, though we just started and they aren't nearly as informative as Tiffany would be.
You really don't need much to make a podcast. Images and video from almost any current digital camera can be melded together with a simple program like imovie, and exported as a video podcast. Or any audio program like Audacity, Sound Studio or Garageband can be used to record and create audio podcasts.
I've been playing for 2 years and have to admit I only just found out that the concept of a Taiko ensemble was only created in 1951. I thought it was older than that. Can anyone explain where "traditional" pieces like Taiko Bayashi and Buchiawase originate from?

we have actually invited Tiffany Tamaribuchi at one point to give us a talk about taiko and its roots. There were explanations, demonstrations, audience participation, Hachijo, Miyake and Odaiko solos as only Tiffany can do. A live podcast. It was fantastic and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity!

Super interesting! Also, where I learn taiko (Taiwan), it’s just as Tiffany describes: pretty much zero guidance - I think in four years I have received maybe one or two pieces of direct feedback from my teachers. We just watch and learn 🙂
