We are currently using a customized project management software made to us by a database guy, but the system is getting old and we really need something open source and easy to use (thinking Taiga or....?).

We need to manage development pipeline for our projects here.

Needs to facilitate file sharing relative to the project and act as a central repository for project related resources.

Needs to be able to designate certain users from seeing (or signing off). So I would like roles for members/editors/admins/managers/etc..

Typical pipeline procedure (in case someone is interested).

• Admin assigns project to a developer • Developer develops, and sends project to Quality Control. • Quality Control signs off and Developer sends project to an expert in that field (Target Editor). • Target Editor signs off and Developer sends project to an English Editor. • English Editor signs off and Developer sends project for Final Review. • Final Review signs off and sends project to Tech Review/Sound Editor. • Tech Review/Sound Editor sign off and submits it for deployment.

Needs to have rolls/permission for members and admins (can Taiga do this?). For example, during each step of the project inside the pipeline - only one designated role may edit the project (so it can't be Kanban where everyone has access to everything. I guess it can be OK for everyone to see it, but sign off needs to be restricted to a specified user).

Needs to be able to track all users, projects (progression of projects) and collect metrics and print reports.

I would like to stay with something open source and free - I've tried Trello, but 'normal' users have almost the same privileges as admins (meaning they can edit cards/tickets - it's wayyy too limited). I'm now looking at Druple, Taiga and Producteev

Hi. I think Taiga can handle much of what you are looking for. We are about to announce (week after next) the first stage of integration with GitHub, so you will see repository integration. The permissioning you need seems largely capturable with Taiga today. Files can be attached to tasks no problem. Perhaps the only thing you don't have yet are printable reports, but that is on our roadmap.

Looking forward to seeing if Taiga fits the bill...

Hello,

Taiga can do a good job with your workflow I believe.  They have that part down pretty well.

The primary issue (at least from our standpoint - and yours as well) is the lack of reporting.  There is no time tracking, and they have stated that it is not in their plans, although they would be willing to work with someone to help create this feature.  Reporting-wise, this simply isn't an enterprise solution.

The other issue that we have (and you would as well) is the document repository. They have a wiki which is quite nice, but there isn't a document repository in the standard sense.  I would LOVE it if they had one with version control a la SharePoint.

The lack of these two feature categories are very disappointing, but it is still Beta software.  I use it because for what it does, it does it very, very well.  Sadly, these missing features prevent us from using it at work for any real projects.  I currently use Taiga.io on the side, but continue to use Jira Agile and SharePoint online for project management at work.

I'm hoping that these things get added in the future, either by the team or the community.  They seem to move at a good pace, and aren't as arrogant as the Basecamp folks.  Taiga certainly has a ton of potential.

Hi thanks for your comments. We have the features you are mentioning in our backlog. The way we will enable Time tracking is via special fields - that is in the works. Can’t give you an exact timeframe, but we are hearing this often enough that it is moving to the very top of our backlog.

Reporting and document repository are also very much on our radar. I’ll let other in our team respond more specifically. We are indeed building this project with folks like yourself eager to put forth the feature set that will make the product everything it needs to be. Thanks for taking the time to send us your views.

Best,

Wow!  That is awesome!

While I am using the hosted version, we have been very impressed with the UX and polish of the features that are in place.  I am very excited to see where this project goes.

We currently subscribe to Basecamp and found it lacked any structure or foundation for accountability and every feature that we wanted seemed to be an add-on for and extra $20-$100 per month.  We also subscribe to Jira and Jira Agile and find it to be very good...as an issue tracker.  It doesn't quite have the feature-set for medium to large-scale projects.

One major issue for us is the lack of adding documents from other sources (esp. Google drive). Reporting would also be handy.

Great open source project though!
