I just bought a Seagull M6 Cedar at a pawn shop today. I've always wanted one and I'm very happy. I went to the Seagull website to see if I could contact them about finding out what year model it is using the serial number, however the only contact method they have is via snail mail to a Canadian address, so I was wondering if anyone here has any resources on finding model years from the serial numbers. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I can't help you with a reliable resource, but LaSiDo has some of the best customer service I've come across. They usually answer their e-mails, though it may take a week or more. Since it's getting into the holidays, though, it'll be a while.

Thanks! so I was right about the 02 thing. There's a fist - I'm right! I don't have the patience to work out exactly when it was made, but according to my calculations, it's somewhere around the second or third week of Jan 02. Cool

I was recently considering a certain used Simon & Patrick and sent several emails to in...@godinguitars.com. Each time, Michel responded to my questions within a day or two, sometimes late at night. He's very responsive. I don't have a direct email address, but he seems to answer everything sent to "info".

Bill, I recently read a suggestion that "Norman" was somehow a spin on the name "Martin". In fact, Norman is the first name of Robert Godin's original partner. They had a falling out and Norman Boucher passed away 11 years ago. Boucher guitars are still made by Norman's son and nephew. Except for the fact that Norman appears to be a popular brand in Europe, I'm also surprised that they still use that name. Oddly, the Norman web site is not as complete and thorough as the A&L, S&P and Seagull sites. It appears that Godin doesn't give Norman as much respect as their other brands, so you may be onto something about eventually discontinuing that line.

Normans are not very available in Germany. Too bad. I had a B-30 that dated probably from 1976 or '77, and it was a great guitar. I am not sure when Godin took over, but the B20-12 I bought in 1986 didn't seem as good, and the B-20C that I bought in 1998 again didn't seem to be the same build quality as the 70's B-30.

I have a Seagull Entourage Rustic CW QI. Its serial number is 033430016761. Can anyone tell me anything about this guitar? I know the CW is cutaway, and the QI is the electronics onboard, but the serial number is what I am looking to decode. 12 digit serial codes are hard to decode.

O.k. this post should probably be called Godin guitar serial numbers rather than Seagull guitar serial numbers, because it applies to all guitars under the Godin umbrella (Seagull, Art & Lutherie, Simon & Patrick, Norman and La Patrie) but it certainly applies to Seagull guitars.

So, overall we can tell that this guitar was the 148th guitar built in the 3rd week of August in 2004 and it was built on a Thursday. So we can work out that it was built on Thursday the 19th of August, 2004.

I mean I guess serial numbers are really meant for internal purposes for Seagull and for anti-theft measures but sometimes you want to be able to find out the year of production. I imagine if you were to contact Godin they would have this information.

So, overall from our example serial number we can tell that the serial number belongs to an S6 Original that is not a factory second, and that it was the 123rd S6 Original to be shipped since Godin began their 12 digit serial number system.

But as I said earlier, it is perhaps the fact that serial numbers are mainly for internal company purposes and for identifying stolen property. But, it would be nice to be able to quickly tell what year your guitar was built from the serial number as well.

Hello. I am really in a quandary. I have what I believe to be a Seagull artist series, cameo ca but I can not find a serial number anywhere on it.
The labels inside the sound hole look authentic. Where can I find the number or did I get a knockoff. The guitar looks exactly like the one on seagull?s web page.
I sent a text to seagull this AM but they have not replied yet.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
I was told by the fellows bought it from that ha bought it about. 10 or so years ago from Elderly in Lansing Mi.

Hello again. Seagull answered back said the serial number was either on the label on inside of the guitar or on the headstock. I had looked on the headstock several times before and did not see it. Looked again after I was told it should be in one of those two places. Sure enough there it was.

Hi Dale, I have a Godin Seagull S series S6+CW #02283735. It appears to be a cedar front with a darker timber on the sides and bottom. It is a very nice guitar to play however it does not have a pick-up. I know as soon as I get a pick-up put onto it, that would take it away from being an original, however do you have any recommendations for a pick-up. I also take it that this is a discontinued model.
Cheers
Pete

Hi
I just acquired an older lefty Seagull Acoustic . Model is Cedar and serial just says Demo . Cherry back and sides with solid cedar top , mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard . Truss rod is located on head stock . Is it possible to provide me with a year of manufacture ?
Thanks
Randy Currie

Seagull is one of the biggest acoustic guitar manufacturers on the market not to have a webpage or something with which you can search for serial numbers. Thankfully, there are resources like this that can help you to ascertain precisely what you are after: -serial-numbers.

Hey I'm Ryan with stickdulcimer.com today I'm going to cover the differencebetween two different seagull merlin m4s. This one up here is the g-tune education model with the numbers on the fretboard and this one is the d-tunestandard one.Now I wanted to run this product comparison that we've got here because I have a lot of views and a lot of attention and questions about the difference between the two d models they have a spruce top and a mahogany top d model and that's what most people own, but not many people know a lot about the g model here so I wanted to compare those two.I myself didn't know how this one worked until I had one in my hands. So it's good for you to be informed so you can make a decision that fits your needs. All right so this bottom one here is d this particular one is spruce top maple back and sides. All of them come with only seven frets two to one octave, seven frets are diatonic so there's no differences there. The main difference between these two is that this one comes in a mahogany top only and there's numbers on the frets on up here that are intended for education purposes so that you can know where you are a little quicker and easier. And then it's tuned to g the g below the d model so this is the standard d that everyone generally plays and that's the g below it.

I have a C50 Classical Rosewood Sides and Back with Solid Cedar Top and Ebony Fingerboard. It is in almost New Condition only played for 20hrs tops. It has been in store for nearly 20 years and remains in excellent playing condition.

I have contacted Gibson and they kindly sent me via e-mail a 'Product Sheet' and pricelist for this guitar. It appears to have been made from around 1986 to 1992. My C50s serial number is 8610049 so appears to be an early model and ties up with my memory of buying it around 86/87. Construction Materials are - Rosewood Back and Sides with a Solid Cedar Top and an Ebony Fingerboard. Good quality materials for a Guitar priced at USD $349.. Two cheaper models were made with Mahogany Back and Rosewood Fingerboard at USD $189 and $249. They have been unable to tell me how many were made or shipped.

Hi , I have a c50 , bought it for $50 at a fleamarket serial#911403 last number unreadable . I'm a luthier and I bought it immediately Brazillian rosewood back and sides , cedar top , ebony fingerboard . It plays swweeter than anything I've built and a lot of other high end classicals as well, ramirez etc. . Other than this post I found an article that showed one auctioned in England for 15000 sterling. You are all very fortunate to have this remarkable instrument . I don't think this is the same as the one sent to you by Gibson , certainly not Brazillian rosewood at that time and that price. rcan...@verizon.net

I have actually had it for bout 20 years , I haven't found any thiung i like better . I have had many string sets on it over the years , but the ones I like best are the Hanabach Goldin's .... they have carbon graphite trebles and just bring out that Dark Chocolate sound of cedar and brazilian rosewood . Try em' and let me know what you think ... here's a link...

I bought my C50 on ebay about 8 or 9 years ago - paid about 250 USD for it, incl hardshell case. It's condition was(and is) exceptional. I've also found very little about this guitar. I don't have the serial number handy. It is on the original label under the soundhole. I think the fellow I bought it from said it was from the eighties and made in Japan. iwould like to have a copy of the material from Gibson.

I just joined the forum yesterday but came across this thread about a month ago when I was researching a C50 on ebay I eventually purchased. There seems to be very little information about this guitar on the internet. Hopefully a few people can add some.

I'll post some photos when I get a chance. Firstly I am a lefty and had a local luthier cut a new nut from bone and reverse the strings. The guitar came with a mis-matched set of tuners. On one side the original which was fairly worn and barely functional and on the other a cheaper newer addition held on with wires, because there was a crack along the screw line.
