I've upgraded the SDK tools to revision 20 (from 18) and since the upgrade, the emulator doesn't seem to accept input from laptop's keyboard. But only using the emulator's own 'soft' keyboard (that appears when an input field is focused).

I've tried reinstalling the SDK tools (and the whole SDK for that matter), uninstalled and reinstalled Eclipse Android plugins, re-created emulator devices. But none of that seem to help and its driving me mad. Its hopeless to key-in using a laptop's trackpad.

Even though the developer documentation says keyboard support is enabled by default it doesn't seem to be that way in SDK rev 20. I explicitly enabled keyboard support in my emulator's config.ini file and that worked!

Look in AVD Manager, select the AVD and click in Edit. In Hardware section: click in "New" and search for "Keyboard support" and add with OK button and set the value to "yes" and save changes with "Edit AVD"

Here is some workaround that actually worked for me, it is the same solution as in the most popular answer - just add hw.keyboard=yes to config.ini but since this didn't work for me I additionally

Sometimes computer keyboard stops working on android emulator. Today I've noticed, that after pushing this button (that I marked with red arrow), keyboard starts working again (seems to be some issues with emulator window focus)

Look for the hidden .android folder in your user home folder. You might rename or delete this folder, recreate your AVD, and restart the emulator. It could be there is a .ini file in that folder that has that setting munged.

Recreating an AVD with the Hardware Keyboard + setting the boolean to true was the only solution that worked for me; the other two main solutions (terminal or editing an existing AVD via GUI) both resulted in software/emulator crashes on my Mac. Making a new AVD resulted in the keyboard working just fine.

I have used an emulator for API Level 23, which does not take keyboard input for installed apk.So I have created new emulator for API Level 29, and then it works.Following is the step to install new emulator.

I cannot type, because the keyboard disappears after a brief moment. I tried reinstalling the app, now I cannot even log in, because I am unable to put in my credentials. It was working perfectly before the firmware update. The same thing happens with every keyboard app, but only in Obsidian. Both the app and the device is up to date. I tried reinstalling the app, but the issue persists. (I also lost access to sync because I cannot log in, as I am unable to put in my credentials.)

Can you suggest other apps that work in the same way I have no reason to download or use discord, which of never heard of before. My aim for having the device was to have a minimum of activity other than reading, writing and note making.

I have just discovered that a floating keyboard seems to stay up. Of course the BOOX floating keyboard is not very customizable, (and it seems to sometimes switch to full screen without warning) but Gboard seems to work fine in floating mode.

Also, did you all ever have issues with the toolbar not displaying above the keyboard in Obsidian? I updated the Boox firmware hoping that would solve this problem, but instead it wiped out the keyboard entirely

So far, the best workaround is to use Gboard in the floating mode. We can, for example, open a different app, and when Gboard shows up, activate floating mode (in the upper-left corner of Gboard click the 4 squares icon > floating keyboard). Then, we can open Obsidian and start typing.

The other day I stumbled upon a different keyboard within the F-Droid repo called Unexpected Keyboard and I really like this thing for editing notes on Android.
It has a number of nice features that make it ideal:

The basic way it works is like a normal keyboard but also has symbols in the corners of the buttons, a small swipe towards that corner puts in that symbol which means that just on a single layer you get pretty much everything you could want - it even biases them towards the right side for easy one handed typing (sorry lefties, I looked at the settings but can't see anything to swap it).

I'm running Evernote 10.57.2 on Android 14 on Google Pixel 3a. On Nov 2, 2023, all of a sudden, Evernote stopped working with Gboard (Android-Google keyboard). When I go to type anything anywhere in Evernote, whether into a search box, a note Title or Body...anywhere, the keyboard appears as if to let me type, and then immediately disappears. I have rebooted my phone. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Evernote (which takes Evernote a long long time to resync to point where app becomes usable again...my notes database is large stretching back many many years). Still, when all is said and done, the bug remains. Just appeared today. What's going on Evernote?

I'm noticing another weirdness...not sure if it's related. My default notebook is very large. On my Android phone (Google Pixel 3a), my default notebook either doesn't show up in the list of notebooks, or it shows up twice. Very strange. On my desktop (MacOS) everything is still fine. So I logged into web browser and switched my default notebook to a notebook with few notes. In past Evernote bugs which have made their app unusable, doing this fixed things. Not this time. My old default notebook still shows up twice in list of notebooks even though it is no longer default notebook. And the Gboard on my Android phone still disappears before I can type on it within Evernote. This essentially renders Evernote 100% unusable for me on Android. VERY frustrating. The main point of Evernote is simply to work. To allow me to take and read and share notes at my desk or while mobile. Now 100% broken for me while mobile. And my historical experience is that Evernote will be 100% out of commission for me due to bugs 1-2 weeks per year. Very bug-prone on new revisions. Not good enough!

"I've experienced the same issue on my Pixel 3a with Android 14 and Evernote 10.57.2. It appears to be a compatibility problem with Gboard. I've tried rebooting and reinstalling Evernote, but the issue persists. Hopefully, Evernote will address this in an update soon."

Has anybody reported this to Evernote Support? Since a number of people are experiencing it, and no one here on the forum has any way of fixing things, contacting support to let them know what's happening would be the best way to go (though they seem to be pretty overwhelmed at the moment).

I would say this is a fairly decent response. Support request sent via email on the third (although the first posting on this thread was on the second), fixed sometime on the fourth, notified early on the sixth. We don't know, though, when they first found out about it. Of course one would like faster response on an app we rely on multiple times a day such as Evernote, but it's impossible to get help on so many apps this actually doesn't look bad. And it's within a just over a 48 hour window which is pretty normal for email support.

Thanks to everyone who provided insights and helped confirm that this indeed was a bug seen by others and not just me. And thanks @nrpardee for submitting a ticket. I was traveling to a funeral (with my mobile device, unable to use Evernote) and simply didn't have a chance to file the bug. I appreciate you filing. And that bug is now fixed for me too as part of an auto-downloaded update.

I would agree with you the response time was reasonable. I was out of operation from late Wednesday until sometime Saturday when my Evernote auto-updated. My frustration is that this is a recurring thing with Evernote. It seems I lose 3-4 days operation a couple times a year with Evernote. It feels like Evernote does not do enough regression testing on their new releases and new and significant bugs are introduced as part of releases taking down large swaths of users. I don't have that experience with other critical apps I run on my Android phone like Todoist, Gmail and the rest of the Google suite, and others. Unfortunately, Evernote stands out in this regard for me. But again, I do appreciate that they do eventually fix the bugs that get introduced. And I do feel the Evernote functionality is just right for what I use it for...cross-platform daily note-taking.

Unfortunately, support for native on-screen keyboard is a browser issue. Until the browsers on these platforms handle keyboard events more intelligently, the best short-term solution will probably be to make the provided JavaScript on-screen keyboard more usable for touch interfaces.

In both iOS and Android, the on-screen keyboard only displays when an input field has focus. As keyboard input to Guacamole does not come from an input field, the on-screen keyboard is hidden. There is no way (currently) to hint to the browser that the keyboard should be displayed, and neither mobile browser uses the presence of keyboard event handlers to trigger such a display.

It is possible to force the on-screen keyboard to display on Android by holding the menu button for a second or two, but this still causes problems with some browsers: opening the on-screen keyboard in the default Android browser causes the URL bar to gain focus, and the mobile version of Firefox doesn't fire keyboard events for keypresses on the on-screen keyboard for any letter keys.

I actually tried this on ios - ipad - and there only appear 4 buttons on the right bottom. Ctrl Alt Esc Tab. The native keyboard never shows up.
--- during trying now.. i figuerd it out that i had to click on the left bottom bar to make the keyboard appear. Nice, but .. i can't hide the keyboard anymore and the canvas is minimized so that i cant really see what i type. To hide the keyboard i have to switch the input method again. When i use the build in 'hide' button the keyboard moves down but comes up right away again.
Update: Happens in Safari - in Chrome i can hide the keyboard

I'm using Android Remote Desktop App to access my computer. I use Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra model with 'book cover keyboard'. While I'm using remote deskto app, the bottom bar including home button comes up to screen when I press any keys, and it blocks the screen. I want this app to keep full screen without bottom bar. I checked with other apps and they don't show up bottom bar when press any button. (I'm not sure if I'm at the right place. I just folllowed the link in the app)
