It might make some sense sense to do proof of work on top of Tahrir, but really I don't see it being ideal for people who are working with outdated or restricted technology. With Tahrir being a Twitter clone, it seems like making speech expensive on a proof of work system could be relatively easy. The whitepaper says that the solution to spam on this type of network is to increase the difficulty. What is the distinction between a well run spam campaign and DoS attack? The people with the fastest computing resources win out. If revolutionaries are Tahrir's ideal users, I think making proof of work mandatory could be a mistake.
