The Rhino installer is responsible for making sure your Windows installation has everything it needs to run Rhino. This includes the .NET framework and Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime redistributable packages. Because many computers already have these packages, they are not embedded in the installer. They are downloaded as needed during installation.

Hi,
I seem to have an issue with installing Rhino 7.4.21078.01001 silently, on install I am passing the parameter LICENSE_METHOD=ZOO and ZOO_SERVER=FQDN and others but once the install has completed and the user launches Rhino 7 the license method has to be chosen manually, Rhino 7.2 worked fine passing these parameters, any suggestions?
Automating installation of Rhino 7 for Windows [McNeel Wiki]
Hi John,
Thanks for that, sorry I tried to add (CN.DC.DC.DC) to show you the format of the FQDN I should have made it more clear, thats my fault.
It seems to work if I take away every other parameter apart from license_method and zoo_server but I would need to do some more testing on that.
Thanks
If you edit a Rhino 3dm file with Rhino 4, then install Rhino 5 or 6, then 3dm files are associated with the most recently installed version.
Your alternative is to Right-mouse click on the file and specifically choose the application you want to run it with.
Hi!, Is there any registry to know the installation folder of rhinoceros? or how can i know where is rhino installed?. I need execute the rhiexec.exe just for install a rhi plugin, and sometimes the .rhi extension is not associate to the rhino software.
Thanks
OK, figured out a solution. I just installed a demo version of VS enterprise and then changed the launch program, then opened it back up in express and worked fine. Just mentioning it here in case anyone else has this issue.
The discussion forum is the wrong place to try to troubleshoot specific install problems. This is not a general problem with the installer. These always turns out to be an issue with the specific computer.
There is nothing the group will learn that is of use.
Because my laptop is still new, I tried to reset the whole thing thinking that maybe it was the recent Windows 11 update that messed it up as it was working fine on the original Windows on the laptop. Still no luck. I even tried installing Rhino 6/7 after each update was done.
I have CD,s of Rhino V4, and an educational upgrade of V5 on CD for Windows. My problem is that I just bought an iMac that does not have a CD drive, and I want to install Rhino on my Boot Camp partition that has Win 7 pro. I do not have another machine in my house that has windows running. My question is can I download rhino 4 and install it, and then download the educational upgrade and install it on my win 7 partition, and where can I find those on the rhino website?
Thanks in advance,
Frank
Hi all,
I am going to install Rhino on a new laptop and I would like to have multiple versions to keep using some plugin and have compatibility with some older software.
Namely, I would like to install Rhino v. 5-6-7-8wip
All versions of Rhino files use the same .3dm extension so Windows will only be able to associate them with one of these - you might wish to ensure that the Windows file association is with whichever Rhino you use most. (I have a little utility which checks within the .3dm file to find out which version it is so when I double click the file the utility opens the correct Rhino, but I need to review this because if, say, a Rhino 5 file is created by Rhino 7 rather than Rhino 5 then my utility sees it as a Rhino 7 file.)
Hi Jeremy - ReadArchiveVersion might work more reliably - (have not tried - I have a similar thing but I get the info, maybe not the best way 'cause it involves a lot of text parsing to find anything, via ReadStartSectionComments() I will see if readArchiveVersion gets there more directly)
Hi Jeremy - Yeah, I guess that is what I was trying to work around by reading the start section. The archive version will not change within a major version, so I guess the answer to your question is no. The start section in different file versions seems to be arranged differently, so to be reliable my text parsing has to know what archive version it is reading - I have not done that yet, so it gives an error on some and works on others.
Hi all, laptop arrived and i am starting setup but cannot find a download link for Rhino v5.
If I login to my account I see only Rhino 6-7 download link
Tryed this link then but got this error
The license key you entered is not eligible for downgrade:
On PC I have running fine both 5-6-7-8
Update, I just uninstalled sketchup from my computer and tried reinstalling Enscape and sketch up is also not available as a host application. This makes me think enscape is not recognizing Rhino 7, but the website says enscape does not support Rhino 8. Any thoughts? Thank you!
I also tried uninstalling Parallels (On my Parallels VM, I was already running Rhino for Windows so I assumed that there was some conflict there that might have been the issue) but I'm still having the same exact installation issue even after completely removing Parallels. There isn't any other Enscape-compatible software that's on my computer now besides Rhino for Mac. Was there anything else you did to make it work besides deleting Parallels?
It is a permissions issue. Go to your user folder from Macintosh HD. right click in the blank space and click on show view options, and check show library folder. from there - access the library folder. go to application support, then right click on the folder called McNeel and get info. At the bottom, click the lock icon and input your admin password. click the plus button on the bottom left and add your user account and change privileges to read and write. select your user name in the list, click the circle with three dots and drop down and select make owner. then press that button again and click to apply to enclosed items. Enscape should now show up.
I am now having an issue after months of using enscape where it simply doesn't open. It's installed and the menu is on my rhino and I was using it all morning with the same model and now when I click Enscape Start Command (or any of the other icons) it recognizes them but nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing happens. Can someone help?! Ahh in the middle of a presentation!!
I would recommend installing Python modules manually (see this old thread), that is download the tar.gz file (for instance mpmath-1.0.0.tar.gz from here) and unzip all those babushka layers until you get to the folder just called mpmath and move that to a directory in the Rhino.Python paths list, like so:
Hi @shwdehaan, this is exactly what I did, but now I use a batch file to do the process automatically for me every time I need to do an update. You have to get the enum, mpmath packages directly (what @AndersDeleuran explained) and paste them in the relevant IronPython paths. To put simply:
The issue seems to be that you had an existing installation and that the uninstaller.gh did not run properly. This is why the message says that a ladybug_tools folder already exists. Can you manually delete this folder?
This error occurs when I install rhino version 8, before I install version 8, I uninstall and install lbt 1.5 device along with radiance, open studio. Previously in the rhino 7 version, lBT 1.5 can be installed. After that I went back to rhino 7 to reinstall lBT 1.5, in fact the same error occurred
So my question would be, do you live in a place where your access to Google might be blocked? That could also potentially explain why @hdimor.mr had a hard time reaching the Pollination website. If this is the case, then the best suggestion that I could make would be to use a VPN to get around this restriction. And, if you have the option, the Pollination installer is generally going to be better than trying to use the Food4Rhino installer since everything is self-contained within the Pollination installer but the Food4Rhino installation pathway relies on downloading all sorts of different things from different domains across the web.
All fixed! As you suspected it was loading from somewhere else: I installed it in program files but I had my previous GH only Pollination stuff in C:\Users, probably led to some confusion. Reinstalled everything in C:\Users and working fine now.
Hello, I face up a big problem with the rhino 7 plug in. I tried many time with many re-installations every time I am going to install the toolbar it open me many new rhino files. Its a big problem please help me.
Hello, did you have more than one version of Rhino on your computer? What is the latest one installed on your computer?
For example, if you installed Rhino 5 at the last time, the registry entries will show only Rhino 5, although you have Rhino 6 or 7 on your computer.
So the solution is to reinstall Rhino 7 on your computer to refresh the registry entry.
In general Rhino should be installed before installing the SOFiSTiK Rhino Interface. For installing the Rhino Interface, please open the SOFiSTiK Application Manager, select the SOFiSTiK 2022 Tab and markthe SOFiSTiK Rhino Interface for installation. Please make sure to activate also the SOFiSTiK 2022 analysis package for installation. To start the download and the installation process, press Next.
After successfully installing the SOFiSTiK Rhino Interface, the interface should be immediately available when starting Rhino. You might have to restart Rhino in case the program is running during installation.
This means, unless any SOFiSTiK functionality provided by this extension is called or Rhino has been started from withinSSD, no license is occupied and the interface is being inactive. You can active the interface manually at any point incase it is inactive with any command or feature of the plug-in, e.g. by calling the command _sofRhinowithin Rhino or by clicking on any toolbutton in the SOFiSTiK toolbar of Rhino.
