Tagging attachments in mail before moving

Is there a way to tag attached files while still in Mail and before
saving the attachment?

The workflow right now is save the attachment, find it in the folder,
and tag it. Seems like a pain and I'd think there is a better way.

St.Clair Software offers DefaultFolderX, which lets you apply OM tags from the save box. Although that software provides a lot of other functions, the tagging feature was worth it for me.
