Automatically Tag Folders

Although I am using tags more and more, I still like and need the
ability to store things in folders. Now, I try to tag everything
before I file it in a folder, but want to know if there is some way to
automatically tag each item I place in folder with the folder name, or
other tag of my choosing.

Maybe this has been addressed elsewhere, but I didn't see it. I would
appreciate any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Please have a look at the Automator and Script Examples from the Help
menu.
You can use those in combination with Finder Folder Actions
menu.
