Dear Friends,

It is very sad to know about the tragic incident that happened during the Ombattu Gudda Trek where a student of BMS college of Engineering lost his life.
Jungles are habitats to every other species but human. When we are entering the forest, it is very important to respect & follow the rules set by forest departments for safe adventure.

Seeking written permission from forest departments is a mandatory rule that applies to anyone who is entering forests in India. Only local & tribal people are exempted from this rule. Most of our trekking community has been following this one rule diligently & has been enjoying safe adventure & nature at its best every time since over a decade.

The kids in the above mentioned event, just took off by themselves and landed into trouble.  A few years ago, an IISC Student, was lost while trekking Kumara Parvata. More often than not we read about people from colleges & IT drowning in rivers and waterfalls. In all the cases, the common aspect is that these adventure seekers did not take adequate safety measures before getting on the adventure. Due to the stupidity of a few people who land into trouble mainly due to their own carelessness, the entire community is blamed.

In the wake of such a tragic incident, City colleges now want to send out reminders to students not to venture into forests. Fair enough, but will this move really stop kids from venturing into forests & trekking on their own? Creating awareness about process, rules and behavior in jungle is more important than restricting freedom.
