Dear Betsy,
I am sorry that I was on zoom yesterday, as there was much background noise, but this is what I heard .
# We were to sign a MOU for 2 highly competent and deserving groups to hunt on TCF. We had not previously discussed hunting (I am highly in favor of hunting).
# A target gallery for training hunters was in place, near the shed, but was likely to be moved.
# A complaint by a neighbor was dealt with "off line".
# There ha NEVER been a injury related to hunters and non-hunters operating in the same area in NYS with properly trained hunters
My concerns are that we have no regulations re groups hunting. Are there limits to the number of groups, size of groups, "worth" of the group. Can individuals hunt? Are there daily limits? Etc.
Does the Committee have oversight re a shooting gallery? hours of use? Location?
We have no formal process for dealing with complaints. All complaints, in my opinion, need to be reviewed by the Committee, and a complainant should have the right to protest, if the resolution of the issue has not been satisfactory. If the issue is "too sensitive" the Committee should have a review process in executive session.
"Never" events are rare, but can happen. As the Medical Director of a hospital , I had to deal with wrong site/side surgical procedures, an incident where a 5 years old walking with her parents picked up a needle from the sidewalk near our ER and managed to stick herself, and an attorney and highly respected civil leader who denied excessive alcohol use went into DTs three days after admission, severely injuring herself. These should be "never" events. I personally would like geographic separation between hunters and hikers. At, least this should be discussed.
Please feel free to share this note with the Committee.
Sorry for being a pest
Larry
