The other day I was at a great little German bar, Prost, in my
neighborhood, drinking beer from 1 liter glasses when I spied high
upon a shelf a bottle of Barenjager. I proceded to tell my friend,
Tim, how we do shots of this sweet honey liqueur every Estrella and
also tried to convince him to go with me next year. This shelf seemed
to contain liqueurs exclusively from Germany and a few bottles down
from one of the finest shots we shoot at Estrella was . . . ah . . . a
bottle of Jagermeister.

It suddenly dawned on me that these two seem to be the good and evil
of Estrella war shots. Of course you have to do 2 shots of Barenjager
to equal the alcohol of 1 Jagermeister but who wouldn't want to?! I
don't know why we still shoot Jager. I don't know what sort of evil
person on the Jager website created the recipe for Bloody Jager's and
how they brainwashed me to think it would be good. Maybe it's just
tradition, I don't know.

Then I looked up Barenjager on the web and found Schwarze &
Schlichte. Apparently the parent company thingiee. Being a mead
drinker/producer, I noted that they have 2 other honey drinks.
Barenfang, sort of a cheaper version of Barenjager with 2 percent less
alcohol and Barenmet which is a fortified honeywine not to unlike
mead.

Ya, the old standard Jegarmister, is sooooooo last century! Actually Jegar, and Barenjager fall into a category of herbal liquors called Amaros:
Of which I simply adore a beverage called Zwack in the US and Ulcum in Hungary and Europe. Its kind of like Jegarmister in style but instead of that nasty anise taste it has this wonderful dark cherry overtone.
And then there is my favorite, Ramazzotti, which has bitter orange overtones.

So in essence I am trying to replace the good and evil dichotomy with a good good one! :)

I don't think Barenjager would fall into the Amaro group.  It's not herbal . . . is it?  You should bring some of those to the next war.
