Greetings all!
I know it still seems early for War planning, but pre-reg has been open for a month and a half already.  I'd like to register soon, as I have been working alot of hours lately and I have the money to do so at the moment.  I don't know what the economy will be like in 5 months, so I'd rather not drag my feet too much.

The first thing we need to discuss is where we'd like to camp.  Any suggestions?  I enjoyed Sir Avram's hospitality last year.  Ricka, is that a possibility again this year?

I guess we should also try to get an idea of how many people are planning on coming out this year.  Can we have a sound-off?

Funny you should ask that, Dave and I were just discussing that very thing this evening.  I will absolutely talk to Sir Avram and see what we can do about camping.   I prefer to be in the Outlands as well.

A sound off would be a huge help in figuring out camping.   I plan to be there, probably going a bit early this year, like tuesday or wednesday and will be there thru sunday since I no longer have to worry about pet care.

I don't think ill be there unless we come into a large sum of money

First of all, I suggest we invest a large sum of money into Brian's travel expense account. Failing that: conjuring fairies w/ the ability to carry armor and camping toiletries from the Pacific NW---and Brian, of course.

I plan on being there with a slightly more substantial tent than before, but nothing as cool or big Heinrich's by any means (something closer to a meager 8x12).

Since it's been ~3 years since I've camped with y'all, I'm good with wherever you decide pitch-tents (but if you could arrange for less mud in our general vicinity, that'd be all sorts of great).

I plan on being there either Thursday or Friday. As for Julie, I do
not know yet.

I really enjoyed camping with the Outlands. If possible, I think we
should do that again.

One more thing: Gabe, it is your turn to bring homebrew. :)

As always, we are a little bit up in the air.  If we can come, it'll probably be Friday.

Camping with the Outlands was perfect, so if that happens again that is fine by me.

I expect to be there Thursday night or Friday morning.  When Tucson cools down, I'm installing a new engine in the truck which should help ensure I make it this year.  :)

And Outlands camping sounds good to me.  I'll even take Gabe's mud.

Well, it looks like Game's On!!!  Sorry to put the pressure on you, Ricka....  Please entice Sir Avram and all of his camp with partaking in our feast.  I will make an effort to brew this year as well!!

I am hoping to make it out early this year as well.  I don't know if it's practical, but I'll pre-reg for opening (I'm thinking maybe Wednesday).  Just so everyone knows, it's $70 (for non-members) to get in from 8am Monday to midnight Thursday.  If you come out Friday, you only save $5.  So my thought is, if you're not sure when you're coming, just pre-reg for opening.

I like the idea of creating a fund to get Benedikt & Christine down here.  Who all can put in.... let's say $20?  We'll have to find out what air-fare is and all, but let's keep that idea open, shall we?

I'm getting excited already!!

I'd be happy to throw some money at Benedikt if would help him get here.

Or, we should throw some of Gabe's homebrew - henceforth known as 'Mud' - at him.  We could pour it into molds and bake it into bricks which could then be thrown at Benedikt (and potentially Christine and, well, anyone with a head).  Once unconscious, he could then be strapped to the bottom of a fast bus.  Maybe a Grayhound.  Then we simply wait.  Upon arrival, we toss him into a tent where he will (hopefully) awake, at which point we just tell him he had too much of Gabe's Mud.

Then we do War!

I'm not yet sure how to get him back home, but I came up with this in like a few seconds!  The home trip should be equally effortless.  :)

Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.

I have one question about this plan, however.  Benedikt is a long ways away, are you sure you can throw the Mud far enough?

I, too, could probably find some money to throw at Benedikt's travel costs.  But we should probably figure out what those travel costs might be.

I can also throw Mud at Benedikt, but he'd have to be a very short distance away and be very still for that to be effective.  Before we try something like that though, you should know that I once broke a lamp while trying to hurl a tennis ball at someone.  The lamp was *behind* me. Collateral damage seems . . . likely.

If accuracy of the mud hurling is a requirement, I suggest we build a
mud cannon. We could power it using a Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space
Modulator. That way it would have enough oomph to reach Seattle. Of
course we have to be careful not to destroy Seattle in the process. :)

I know it's not very Marvin-the-Martian-y, but shouldn't we go back to the basics, keep true to the spirit of Estrella, and launch said-mud via trebuchet? Granted, it would have to be the size of AZ,
but isn't 'launching moist dirt via ancient siege-weaponry across the country to knock out your friend so he can be strapped to the bottom of a bus' what Estrella is all about? Come on people.

Perhaps using the treb as an initial launch device only would be more period, allowing it to be smaller than Arizona.  The device could the consist of at least one booster stage and an inertial guidance system.  Being essentially a clay-like beer brick, the re-entry vehicle could be vastly simplified.  Targeting would obviously be a problem for a precision hit on the forehead, but maybe we could send him a small radio beacon that he could put in a hat or something.  I have plans around here somewhere for a radio signal detection thingy.  I was going to use it to find the pirate radio station here in town, but this would be cool, too...

I no longer play doubles tennis.  I let my racket fly in a poorly executed backhand and knocked my partner uncounscious on the court.  AWESOME!

One thing we've got a lot of from Murry and Angus, our dogs, is dog
poo. I'm thinking that if we could collect the dog poo from our yard,
we could launch that. Of course, I'm not sure Brian would appreciate
being knocked out by a giant brick of dog poo.

On the other hand, some could consider it as form of recycling. As a
result, one could argue that it is good for the environment. I'm
thinking we could have a slogan like "Fling excrement for the
environment!"

Instead of launching it, maybe we can use the excrement to power the rockets on our brick flinging contraption.

that. In fact, I've got the "Number Two" song stuck in my head just

Just a quick update - I Spoke with Nevin - Keg's End is also in talks with Sir Avram about camping in the Outlands. It seems we aren't the only ones to noticed the difference in hospitality. If Sir Avram can't help us Sir Kozimo has said he will speak with the Outlands King for us. More info to follow as I have updates. Really all this means is we should be able to get an Outlands slot without too much effort. And all of our favorite people will be close at hand.

Apologies for the late entry to this thread. Kegs End is camping nearby? This sounds like there will be a lot of beer. I hate to see any beer potentially not drank. Plan on me camping as well. I can make it down Friday late afternoon for the weekend.

I spoke to Avram and camping with the Outlands should be no problem, so we are covered on that front. At the moment I'm planning on going a little bit earlier than everyone else has indicated, so I'll have the camp already on the map when you all get there.

Just to be clear so far our roll call has:

Me (Ricka) - arrival monday or tuesday
Heinrick & Sabrina - arrival wednesday or thursday
Dave & (maybe) Julie - arrival thursday or friday
Gabe - arrival thursday or friday
Clint - arrival thursday or friday
Ron - arrival friday
Mac & Kristin - arrival on friday or Saturday (tentative)
Simon & Kate - ?
Ryan - ?
Brain - not attending

Who am I missing?

I know it's hard to commit this far out, but even tentative answers will help me ensure that we have enough space for all (and avoid some of the negative issues we've encountered in the past).

Thanks,

Ricka

Brian, not Brain. As all the facebook folks may have read I'm not
committing and, most likely, not attending again. I do appreciate being
included in the Estrella email loop though. Estrella and all will be
missed. I just have too many vacations planned, one landing a week before
Estrella. You never know, I could win the lottery. I guess I should play,
eh?

That's great!!  I'm going to try to get my registration done this week.  So everyone knows, land allocation changed a bit starting last year.  Land is now divvied up according to the Kingdom & Local Group you specify on your pre-reg form.... so it's important for everyone to pre-reg to get enough land.  Because of this, they've implemented a sort of lay-away plan this year.  You can pre-reg for a $20 deposit and make payments.... or don't make payments.... as long as you pay the balance at the gate. ( http://www.estrellawar.org/RegistrationFrontGate/PreRegistration.aspx )

Your sound-off summary seems to jive with what I've got except for one thing:  LillyAnna (Sabrina) isn't planning on camping right now.  If she does, it will be at most Friday & Saturday nights due to work.

I have tent sizes saved from previous wars for everyone but Ludewicus (Ron).  If that info will help Sir Avram let me know (if anyone has a new tent, a rough footprint would help.  I got yours, Widdowkind, thx!).  Speaking of which, how's that pavilion of your's coming along....? :)
