Some of you may have already noticed through the update notifier, but
finally the long due 0.2.4 has been released.

This release has been baked for months in order to provide much more
polished preferences and tons of new features. Amongst them are full
wildcard search support, automatic filtering of some entries according
to their properties (e.g. obsolete words), hiragana/katakana agnostic
search, training on a given results set, improvements in the kanji
strokes rendering and navigation, support for SKIP code search, an
improved score calculation algorithm, a Dutch translation of the GUI,
and much more. Full changelog can be seen on the Launchpad release
page:

https://launchpad.net/tagaini-jisho/trunk/0.2.4

There may be a couple of more fix releases in the 0.2 branch, but
development will now focus on the new big features that will appear
starting from 0.3: an abstraction to the query mechanism to allow use
of Tagaini as a library, HTML-themeable detailed view, verbs and
adjectives deinflexion engine, etc. On top of these mechanisms will
appear nice things such as component-based kanji selection, example
sentences, entries grouping and so on. So please stay tuned, as the
journey has only begun!

Of course, people willing to help with translations, documentation and
so on are welcome to make a sign. Enjoy this release!

Example sentences? Getting content for that could be a BIG job.

I've just got to redo the images and make sure everything is up to
date with version 2.4, so you should have the manual within the next
week, depending on when my editor gets back to me.

Do you have a list of contributors and what they have contributed so I
can include a credits section in the manual?

There is actually the Tanaka corpus, recently integrated into the
Tatoeba project (http://www.tatoeba.org/) that provide around 150,000
exemple sentences. The main issue is to segment them and link them to
words, but using Mecab there should be nothing impossible here.

Great - looking forward to seeing that!

I have started maintaining a list of contributors on the website:
http://www.tagaini.net/contributors

Although I am not sure whether a credits section is needed in the
manual. Sure, many software does it, but I rather see it in the about
dialog or something like that.

So, I've just noticed that kanji no longer have meanings. Is this just
something on my end? Should I re clone the git tree set it up from
sctach? I tried rebuliding the kanjidic db file and recompiling
tagaini, so short of doing the entire setup process again, there isn't
a lot else I can do.

Err, kanji meanings are still here - at least I did nothing to remove
them. Some very rare kanjis do not have a meaning associated in
kanjidic2, but common ones definitely should. If you cannot solve the
problem, maybe posting a screenshot will help me seeing through this.
