Hi all,

Unfortunately, it seems that Lion has made changes to Smart Folders that cause Tag Folders to break. As some of you may have noticed, I have not been very active for some time on this software. The amount of time it would take to update Tag Folders to work with Lion while also maintaining backwards compatibility with Snow Leopard and below is simply more than I can spare at this time in my life. Therefore, I'm afraid I must end my work on Tag Folders.

If anyone wants to take up development of the software, please do! It is, after all, GPL software. If you do, please post a link to your new site here on the discussion group so that we can all find your new and improved versions.

For those of you still running Snow Leopard and below, the software will continue to work as is. For those of you upgrading to Lion, I recommend looking into other OpenMeta software. You can get a list of such software at http://code.google.com/p/openmeta/wiki/OpenMetaApplications. I personally enjoy Ali Rantakari's Tagger and TagLists.

Thanks again to everyone who used Tag Folders, and even more thanks to all of you who reported bugs, suggested new ideas, submitted fixes, and so on. Without you, this software would never have been a fraction as useful as it was. Cheers to you all, and happy tagging!

HI Jon, just out of curiosity. I tried to uninstall this off my lion
mac after reading it did not support it. After uninstall, I
downloaded something else, but the prompt to tag the folder appeared.
I though i had made sure to uninstall the program but appears i was
eft with the tag folders and the capability to create new tag folders
as well.

After trying it out, i was tagging files that i saved on my desktop
and able to see them in any other tag applications as well.

How is it this happend, i though you said it would not work with lion?

any ideas?

Hi Yaztek,

The software partially works on Lion, but certain functions are flaky or broken. It can still apply tags, but anything that involves opening or editing a Tag Folder (or more precisely, the Smart Folder that each one contains) is likely to fail.

If you want to keep using Tag Prompter to tag files with new Tag Folders, by all means feel free. However, I recommend that you use something else to find your tagged files and manage your tags. If you want to remove the software entirely, just go to the page in the User Guide that lists all the files Tag Folders installs, and remove them.

Thanks for the fast reply. Are you aware of any issues that would
freeze up my lion when i try to preview files from finer or spotlight?

This is exactly what happened when I tried to uninstall. By the way,
I had also installed Default folder x. Not sure, but it may have due
to that program as well.

Nevertheless, I had reinstall my whole OS. The problem was quite
annoying. LIke I said, I mac air with lion was constantly freezing
and the spotlight was in constant indexing.

ANy suggestions would be greatly appreciate. If your sure its not do
to Tag folders, then the limited use of tag folder with Tags app is
great solution. Its much more simple to us than default folder x

thanks

There isn't anything Tag Folders could do to cause Spotlight index corruption. The interactions with Spotlight are actually quite simple and limited, and amount to nothing more than what the user can do manually. At no point does it ever reach into the Spotlight index or anything like that.

Moreover, the problem you describe in the first paragraph sounds like an issue with Quick Look, not with Spotlight. Tag Folders has absolutely nothing to do with Quick Look.
