Weship frozen durian in an insulated box with dry ice or cold packs to ensure freshness upon delivery. The box, tape, and cooler are all biodegradable/recyclable. We use dry ice to keep the frozen durian cold.

Miami Fruit's Malaysian Durian is always tree ripe and tree fallen, which ensures the richest flavors and most nutrients are present in every bite. Because they are tree ripened, their shelf live would only be about two days fresh. We freeze the durians on the same day they are harvested. It is impossible to ship fresh tree fallen durian from Malaysia to the USA which is why we choose frozen, as the next best thing.

This durian is available to ship right to your home because we have been working for years to make this happen. A lot goes into importing durian that most people don't see, but we hope you enjoy the fruit of our labor, we definitely are!

Please allow the fruit to thaw on the counter before attempting to eat it, Once it is thawed, it should be eaten in one sitting although that shouldn't be too hard because it is straight up divine! You can always freeze leftovers to eat later.

The Malaysian durians were sitting out with the rest of the tropical exotics, right between the mangoes and the papayas. They looked small and dark, swaddled in yellow mesh scraps of plastic wrapping.

It was dense and utterly smooth. Except for the slight chew of the firm skin, the durian had an utterly homogeneously creamy interior. It had no fibers or strings, or the odd bits of rubber that I sometimes encounter in frozen Thai durian. The texture was perfect.

Musang King seems to stand up really well to being frozen. The texture and total eating experience was far more similar to consuming it fresh than when eating Thai durians, which tend to be alternatively stringy, lumpy, or too wet when thawed.

Whatever it is, the best place to enjoy durians is actually at the durian estate in the country of origin and right after it fell from the tree. If a durian is more than half an hour off the tree, the actual, original taste of the durian is gone.

Frozen durian is never as good as a very fresh durian, but some of the durians I had in Puerto Rico were overripe, and in those cases the frozen Musang King is better. It holds up quite nicely to being frozen and retains its texture, unlike frozen Thai durians.

Lindsay, thank you so much for your great work and blogging about your journeys into this subject of delectable fruit; I'm not just craving for it, I have an addiction and I can feast on it all day long!!

I wanted to let you know that I contacted the Rockman Co. that you mentioned, they are the Importers of Musang King, and talked to Andy and I was told that it's out of season right now Nov. 2015 and we have to wait till January when he'll know whether they'll get a supply or not!!

OK, now I simply must schedule an evening of going from store to store in Seattle's International District looking for Malaysian durian. If it's in Portland (smaller city, lower percentage of Asians), it's *got* to be for sale somewhere in the ID.

Hi David, that's what I'm thinking. I mean Portland is a big city, but it's not *that* big. If it's in Portland and L.A. it's gotta be in most big cities now. A friend in Ohio found it there too recently!

Great Post Lindsay! I hope I will be able to find this Frozen Musang King in my local Asian Markets soon! Since I last wrote to you, we moved from the Big Island of Hawaii to Berkeley , CA. I still have my durian plants at home in Kailua-Kona, and appreciate you giving me those seeds last year. I'm counting the years till I can have some home grown Durian of my own. I appreciate all your passion and enthusiasm for this fruit. Keep it up!

Durian shells vary pretty widely in color from yellow-brown to camo-green to tinged with purple. Unlike other fruits, the color does not always denote ripeness, but is a characteristic of the variety.

All durian varieties have different lengths of stem. Some have very long stems, like the variety called Gan Yao in Thailand. Others have stems so short you can barely fit your fingers onto it to pick it up.

we can buy frozen musang king in new Zealand, they are packed out of their shell, wrapped in Plastic sheet and placed in paper box.Now the question is how can we tell the fruits are really Musang King, and not some big fraud..

Morning Lindsay,

Can you recommend which farm (with detail address) has more Musang King trees (i think there will no farm with 100% Musang King durian), and when is the suitable time to visit so I can taste the Musang King learn how to plant this type of durian with the person in charge there.

I made a little research on google and the flesh of the durian on this picture really coresponds to Musang King, with its beautifully yellow color. But I found the rind to be rather non-typical for Musang King..

yes they have many types of durian there but the most popular is the D22 and the red prawn if you ask musang king maybe they have also,, you may try also to ask black thorn if they have, the most expensive durian than the musang king.

Hi Anonymous, I am not certain about which area. We were only there a few days but we visited the S-Mart twice, just told the taxi driver to go there. It cost about 12 RM from the bus station to the durian stalls. The stalls were quite large and there were about four of them, if I remember correctly, with many many types of durian.

Hi Anonymous, thanks for your comment. Actually Musang King is not very popular on Penang as it doesn't grow very well. Bao Sheng grows few of them and does not recommend them. If you go to Bao Sheng, remember to ask for what is in season ?

Hi Lindsay, thanks also for your comment. Maybe its true that this kind of durian is not popular in penang or in Bao Sheng its because they kept it as stuff so you must ask this kind of durian But if you go to there market place a lot of musang king they sell there.

I hope you will get a chance to go back to Penang again and compare the Musang King there to what you are familiar with. I am half-convinced it is a slightly different strain. Will look forward to hearing your opinion!

I haven't seen Musang King being sold in Thailand. I know for certain that they don't grow it in Thailand, but you might be able to find it in the frozen section at large, upscale supermarkets. I'll have to look around. My guess though, is that the Thais are proud/happy enough with their own durians, which they can get fresh, to bother with Malaysian durians.

I made a little research on google and the flesh of the durian on this picture really coresponds to Musang King, with its beautifully yellow color. But I found the rind to be rather non-typical for Musang King.. Very confusing. ? I am curious for the results. ?
