It's again influence from Quanzhou and Teochew.
泉州字典 http://solution.cs.ucla.edu/~jinbo/dzl/lookup.php gives 自 zy6
(YangQu)
潮州字典 http://www.mogher.com/index.asp?cat=1 gives 自 ze6 (YangShang),
which is still a consistent mapping with Quanzhou, despite the vowel
and tone shift.
Notice that Quanzhou does give this character: 住 zu6
So, if in Tadpolenese we use
自 = zyr
住 = zur
a potential homograph problem can go away.
