Woman's death in Des Moines investigated as homicide
SEATTLE – Des Moines detectives are asking for the public's help as
they search for whoever killed a woman in her apartment last week.
Jennifer Walstrand was found dead in her residence in the 24000 block
of 25th Avenue South on Aug. 31. Police do not believe it was a random
attack, but do not have a motive for the murder.
Des Moines police say the landlord, who lives in the next unit, heard
"thumping" sounds. He also said the dogs inside the apartment were
barking excessively, which was unusual. He called 911.
When officers arrived, nobody answered the door. They peeked in a
window and saw the victim on the floor just inside the entryway. She
was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Walstrand, who also went by the names "Roxie" and "Face,"
had a long history of prostitution arrests. They say she was involved
in a dating service which included using the Internet to arrange and
meet dates.
Evidence taken from the apartment includes computer and cell phone
records. Des Moines police are requesting the public's assistance,
including with Internet and cell phone record information. Police are
stressing that their focus is on the murder, not on any alleged
prostitution activity.
Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
or
206-343-2020. You can also send your tip to the Crime Stoppers of
Puget Sound website.
