Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a 46-year-old man in
connection with a brutal assault near Yelm on Thursday.
Garrett R. West allegedly strangled his girlfriend until she was
unconscious and tried to break her neck before stealing her minivan
and fleeing her home, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's
Office.
West is also accused of threatening to kill the woman and her adult
son during the tirade at the home near Lawrence Lake. At one point,
police believe West dragged the victim back into her house by her hair
after she attempted to escape.
A warrant has been issued for West for assault in the first degree,
kidnapping in the first degree, theft of a motor vehicle, and felony
harassment.
The woman was treated and released from Providence St. Peter Hospital
in Olympia. West was arrested in June for assaulting the same woman.
West is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, 185 pounds with
gray hair and green eyes. Police say he is not known to be armed, but
can be extremely violent.
He is thought to be driving a white 2001 Chrysler Town and Country
minivan with Washington license plate number 114WHC. Anyone with
information about West’s location should call 911 or Crime Stoppers at
360-493-2222.
