EDIT: Thanks to those who commented about their experiences with re-encounters with your hound's trainer/owner/kennel staff. The post was not intended to become a referendum on whether or not dog racing is good or bad. I know passions run strong on dog racing, our local vet who donated his services to a local racer adoption group got death threats from animal activists and others opposed to racing on the grounds that he, "was passively assisting in the barbarity and cruelty of dog racing". Final note...One of our mob, our sweet little girl ("DEE"...RIP) came to us from an abusive kennel environment with evidence of untreated broken bones and behaviors consistent with coming from an abusive environment. I will share her story with r/greyhounds later. I'll reply to those who stayed, mostly, on topic. But I'm not going to feed the commenters going for outrage porn value. Thanks!
(For those who don't know, racing dogs almost always have secret racing names that are known only to their trainers. This name is dissimilar from the name on their NGA papers and on race handbills...to avoid the possibility of someone in the stands calling to a dog and distracting it during a race. We think this is what Gabe's trainer whispered. We didn't ask.)
Racing Syndicates
OwnerView includes detailed statistics for managed racing syndicates, including a listing of syndicates with comparative statistics. OwnerView will also display the Top 10 horses owned by each racing syndicate. Racing syndicates can upload their profiles including contact information, web site address, professional bio, photo of silks or managing partner, what tracks and trainers are their horses currently racing, and client references. Clients of racing syndicates can submit Ratings about their experiences with the syndicate in the areas of Communication, Integrity, Billing and Staff.
Our man Jake Russell had the fantastic opportunity a few weeks back to talk all things racing with the upcoming trainer, Richard Spencer. We spoke about his 2017 Royal Ascot success so early on in his training career, Rebel Racing and much more that can not be missed.
Now as mentioned earlier on in the section about Richard, He is the main trainer for the well known syndicate Rebel Racing which was formed in 2016 by owner/breeder Phil Cunningham at the picturesque Albert House Stables in Newmarket, with the team now expanded into Sefton Lodge during 2018, with facilities to train around 70 horses.
This document explains the terms and conditions which will form part of and govern our contract with you when you purchase shares in one of our syndicate racehorses horses. These terms and conditions will therefore govern our relationship with you as a racing syndicate member.
Based at Newmarket, our horses will benefit from the leading facilities the home of racing has to offer. Trained by Group One winning trainer James Ferguson, out of Saville House, our horses will be joining a relatively new yard which has already established a win strike race rate around 20% and is currently operating at 50% runners to winners with juveniles in 2022. With the likes of El Bodegon, recently winning the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud, and Miss En Scene already winning at Group level and now heading to the Breeders Cup, there looks likely to be many more top races to be won next year for this exciting new operation.
While we find out about his enthusiasm in horse racing in the movie, Howard is a man of many talents. And he was so kind to answer my questions about the film, the special premiere for the syndicate, the memoir he recently published about Dream Alliance as well as the inevitable questions about the guy who names this blog. ENJOY!

Jeez I hope my trainer wasnt listening too closely yesterday, cup day. great coverage but poss 3 hours too much of Mick. Chase Auckland is freakish and great advert for Auckland Reactor (but 1swallow is it does not make a summer or something like that. as 160 foals in a crop and 4 winners to date conversely 156 need a little more time ,lol.) getting back to not wanting my trainer to hear was 1 of syndicate members in the delight of winning with a purdon horse said theres 36 members and we all pay168 dollars per month . that equals 6048 per month or approx $195 per day . not being nosey but even taking out travel shoes gear vet accom management fees. it seems a big figure Still with a Chase auckland who would care !!! Roll on show day and The Foot Tapper !
This topic highlights for me the near futility of racing horses (harness or thoroughbreds) in this day and age. The costs are so prohibitive that many people go into various syndicates with up to 100 others and the only ones getting a return out of them are the syndicators and breeders who have huge mark-ups on the prices they paid for the horse at the sales as well as clipping the ticket on the training fees by charging exorbitant amounts of money (collectively) in monthly training fees. Te Akau are a prime example of this in the thoroughbred world and I dear say there are a few around the harness scene getting in on the action too and marketing it as "fun" when in fact you're almost certain to do your dough cold unless you're lucky enough to get a top horse who wins millions. The adverts always tell you about the syndicate that raced some top horse but you never hear about the many syndicated horses that fail miserably. A mate of mine has belonged to 15 different syndicates and the 15 horses he raced were all still maidens when retired. One owner recently told me to cover costs his horse had to win at least five races a year and how many horses do that? Not many. Whoever coined the phrase "it's a mug's game" certainly knew what he was talking about. Don't get me wrong - it's a great sport and I've loved it for 50 years and been involved in it as an owner and trainer and in other spheres but it's also called the Sport of Kings for a good reason too - you need a king's fortune to be able to race one these days and the returns for most people are abysmal when you take into account the costs. It all comes back to the stakes on offer comparatively being about the same or in some cases even less than they were 30 years ago.
Welcome to the website of Paul Nicholls Racing which contains a wealth of detail on all aspects of our training operation at Ditcheat. Paul has changed the face of jump racing since he arrived here in October 1991 with eight horses and a notably positive attitude in his relentless pursuit of success. Over 3,600 winners have followed his initial victory with Olveston part owned by his mother, at Hereford a few days short of Christmas 1991. A double at Newton Abbot on Boxing Day offered further evidence that the talented young trainer was on his way and he ended his first season with ten winners.
In the late 1980s, Cummings spent millions of dollars purchasing racehorses, much of the money spent on behalf of a tax minimisation syndicate. Unfortunately, like many other trainers Cummings was hit hard by the recession of the early 1990s. With help from Reg Inglis' organisation, however, he avoided bankruptcy and continued training.[9]
Brad Widdup is regarded by many in the Australian Racing Industry as having the best cv in racing to become a trainer. Brad was the son of a local Albury racehorse trainer when he decided to move to Sydney at age 17 where he landed his first job as a stablehand with BJ Smith at Eclipse Lodge.
