Hi there,
I can't validate a Google drive (or docs) account on the Nook Simple
Touch.
I think it's related to the fact that the default browser doesn't work
on it either, and just doesn't startup.
Basically I hit 'validate access ', and then get a 'a crash in
FolderSync occurred. Please wait! ' error.
The opera browser however works on the device, so is it possible to
allow FS access to Google using that browser?

Running the latest FolderSync (paid) version from Google play.

Thanks,
Thomas

Did you send the log file when the app crashed?

I see the nook doesn't have Google Play support officially.. maybe it doesn't support the full Android framework? In fact FolderSync use a built in WebView for authentication, and that should work even without webbrowser on the device.

Thanks for your reply,

I did click on "Please click here to help fix the issue" in the notification bar and followed the instructions, yes.

Google play does work (browsing apps, installing, updating, purchasing, etc.), except that the search function in it doesn't work.
Other google apps work fine too (gmail, reader, maps, ... ).

I can even copy / paste the url that FS is trying to go to to validate google access from the log file when WiFi is off, getting an access code from google that I should paste into FS. Unfortunately, there is no such option ...

I attach the log ..

Would it be possible to be able to choose the browser after clicking on 'Validate Access' ?
Or alternatively, past the access code from google into FS ?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hmm strange.. I haven't received any error reports from a Nook at all..

I will look into the alternative authentication option, but its not a quick solution.. and FolderSync doesn't use external browser..

I tried to use the send function again.

I also used catlog to create a log file, which is attached.
'catlog_foldersync_masked.txt'  == only lines containing 'foldersync'
'catlog_foldersync_full.txt' == all log

Thanks,
Thomas

I have received a log now. It seems to be related to the you using Android 2.1, where accessing certain SSL websites is buggy.

I don't suppose its possible to upgrade to a newer version? Even if I allow you to manually enter the auth code, its not for certain that normal file operations will work either.

I don't see Android 2.2 being available to the NST/NTG any time soon ...

Google Drive / Dropbox apps work without a problem.
However, Titanium Backup also has that issue on authenticating with Google. Just nothing happens there, and it returns to main TB window.

What I did notice was that using an older version of FS (tried with 1.8.0 and 2.0.4), Dropbox authentication does work.
However, I cannot see where to choose cloud provider, or where to enter the local identifier, so I can neither continue nor choose GDrive to see if it works in that versions.

Anything else I can try to get more information?

I would recommend you use 2.0.4 for now... if you want to use google drive with that, just choose google docs...

Update:
Using FS version 2.0.4, DropBox authentication works, and folder sync works too.
After initializing DropBox account, I did an upgrade using Google Play to the latest FS version.
An voila, DropBox account is still there, and still works.

Now, is there any old version of FS that allowed Google Drive / Docs authentication using an external browser?
Then I could setup GDrive/Docs account before going to the latest FS version.

Thanks

Unfortunately not - the only provider that ever used an external browser for authentication was Dropbox using their SDK.

I am looking into support external browsers in the future, as some others have also requested this, but it will take some time.

Just to let you know, miraculously gdocs and gdrive authentication worked.
I don't know what did it (I didn't change anything but uninstalling / installing older versions, data wipe of FS app), but once it worked, I immediately created a gdrive account, which works flawlessly now.

So for now I'm happy, you'll get handful of stars. I just hope I don't ever have to re-create accounts ... ;-)
