Contact Support by email.
If you don't get a response within the required 3 business days, file a complaint with Google (
Report a policy violation).

Another option:

  1. Go to Google Play Help
  2. Click Contact Us (top right)
  3. Select Android apps & games
  4. Select Other
  5. Click Request a Call or Chat with us

3.6 You Support Your Product. Buyers are instructed to contact the developer concerning any defects or performance issues in applications downloaded and installed from Google Play. You will be solely responsible for, and Google will have no responsibility to undertake or handle support and maintenance of your Products and any complaints about your Products. You must supply and maintain valid and accurate contact information that will be displayed in each application detail page on the Store and made available to users for customer support and legal purposes. For paid Products or in-app transactions, you must respond to customer support inquiries within three (3) business days, and within 24 hours to any support or Product concerns stated to be urgent by Google. Failure to provide adequate information or support for your Products may result in low Product ratings, less prominent product exposure, low sales, billing disputes, or removal from the Store.

Lucky you are, maybe this feature is limited to users located in the US.

Could be. You might want to try VPN to the USA to initiate Chat.

Anyway: my real problem is that the application seem completely abandoned.
Meanwhile, I'm facing unresolved issues and have been unable to find a competing alternative

Yes, and since at first sight it seemed to be a perfect replacement I even paid for the full version

Unfortunately, since then, I've been unable to complete a full sync from phone to my home NAS: whichever access method I'm selecting the task always makes the app crash sooner or later.

And there too, the developers are not responding to my support request: already send two email without getting any response. The first one was 2 weeks ago!
