When I'm syncing, I have average speeds of 350 KB/s.
Is this normal, or should I expect much higher speeds?

Network is N, server is connected via gigabit, and galaxy S3 via wifi.

Checked the sync log, average speed is actually only 289 KB/s...

The average transfer speed for a sync doesn't imply the files are only transferring with that speed. A sync also entails a lot of checking and querying for files, so the average speed will suffer.

I get speeds around 600-700 KB/s with pure file transfer for SMB on a Galaxy Nexus. I get much higher using FTP or WebDAV, because there is considerable protocol overhead when using SMB, which makes it slower.

I paid for your app more than one year ago and uninstalled it because of the SMB/CIFS transfer speed issue. Now I tried it with an high performance tablet and still only 700kb/s. Two years ago you said it's a matter of performance (of my phone). Now it's a protocol overhead issue?

I get transfer rates of about 2MB/s with jCIFS and Solid Explorer and 2,5MB/s with an native system mount (mount -t cifs).

Well, FolderSync use JCIFS as well (latest official release). To my knowledge there is not much I can do differently to improve transfer speeds, other than try different buffer size (to get a bit technical).
I can get 2-3 MB/s using WebDAV - using the same transfer algorithm with the same buffer size.

Maybe I have to set up a WebDAV server on my windows machine. I really want to use FolderSync again, hehe.

Seriously, would be a huge improvement if you could solve this issue. If I can give you assistance, let me know.

I made some tweaks for the next version. Using a Galaxy Nexus I can now get speeds of around 1.6 MB/s - a strange thing is though, that my Synology NAS seems to provide almost double the download speeds of my desktop Windows 8 computer for some files.

Hi Anders

First I want to congratulate you this incredible, useful and flexible app.
I'm currently using the 2.4.8 lite version, testing it to buy the full version, but I'm experiencing extremely low transfer rates (aprox. 70 KB/s average) when uploading from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to a SMB share in a DROBO 5N over a WiFi N connection.
Uploading from my MacBook I get much higher speeds, I haven't tried yet uploading with a file manager.
Is there something that can be done? I already tried disabling the MD5 checksum...
If you need beta testing a improved version I would be more than happy to help you there.

Best Regards
Vlax

Hi Anders

I set up SMB sync as well, and overnight, it did not manage 50 GB on a 54mbit network.....the average was 600 kbit.....My Note and my PC should be perfomant enough and if you got the 1.6 Mbit the other day, why could I not ? This is too slow for me.
I need to look into activating FTP, now, if you cannot give me any other settings or options to improve it.

Thanks

Carsten

I too have issues with the performance of Foldersync on both my Galaxy Note 2 & Note 10.1 using SMB to a Qnap TS412 nas. Thing is; restarting the note's beforehand seems to fix the issue for that particular sync; then it runs slowly again.

I also have a Kindle with the lite version from AndroidPit and that runs that same sync 10x faster every time...

I'm also getting really slow speeds over SMB, about 700kB/s.
LG Nexus 4, Wifi N (150mbps).
