Hey Group.

Been using FolderSync for quite a while with little to no problems.. Current Version 2.5.9 (Sprint) Galaxy Note3 - 32 Gigs with 64gig ex SD card.

Up until last Thursday 2/27 all worked well..  But Thursday afternoon..  my Note 3 upgraded to kitkat 4.4.2.  All seem to work fine.

Use Foldersync to download files from my Dropbox account during day.  docs/pics/pdfs etc..

However noticed today that I was getting errors on syncing.. and when I checked my files I noticed that the last files synced were on the morning of the 27th..  I sync to my external SD card..

After playing around and doing some syncs and testing..  I discovered that Foldersync was not being allowed to access my external SD card any longer..  The error says: Open Failed EACCESS (Permission denied)

When I changed the folder pair to the internal storage of the phone.. it worked great..  it is just not sync now to the SD card..

I can move/delete/copy/paste back and forth from the phone to the SD card..  open docs, play videos etc..   So far the only issue I I have ran into since the Kitkat 4.4.2 upgrade has been the lack of Foldersync to access the ex SD card..

Anyone else seen this issue??..  Any ideas?..

I can work around it by syncing to internal and moving to SD external.. but would perfer not too.. expecially when it worked so well.. So I wondering if it is Kitkat 4.4.2 or maybe something has changed in 2.5.9 now that Kitkat is out?..

Thanks

sw

Yes, there has been a big change in 4.4 that prohibits writing files to external SD cards for non-system apps (not a bug, but intended by Google, for reasons unknown). Reading files works fine.

Currently there is no fix for this, unless you are rooted, then this might work: http://www.androidbeat.com/2013/08/fix-sd-card-writing-issue-on-galaxy-s4-gpe-android-4-3/

Great stuff that is!
I have a Samsung S4 with a poor 6GB internal memory. But no problem: I simply added a 64GB external SD card as mentioned in the specs. Plenty of room they promise... and then Kitkat comes along and leaves me with a low end phone. We should not take that for granted.

Bit of a n00b question, but I see that workaround is for the S4. Same principle for the Sony Z1 (and other adnroid phones I guess). Also, are you working on getting this problem fixed? I have just bought this app and it is pretty much useless now. Seen it in action, and would really like to keep it!
