I'm curious to know where TACFUG members have gone from CF. Or if anyone still works in it.

I am a SQL Server Developer now.

I miss CF. Those were the days I guess.

Hey all, been a while. Anyone have coldfusion working with openCSV 4 or 5?
I've heard it's not friendly but couldn't verify!

LOL I can't believe the list still works :)

I'd ping someone on the cfml slack - lots more people there :)

They still ARE the days, for cf at least. :-) CF2021 added a boatload of new features, and CF2023 is coming in a few months, with cool new features that were shown off at the Adobe CF Summit in Vegas this week. (I just got home tonight.)

But sure, some folks who were here previously may well have moved on to other tech. It's the nature of IT. And fwiw there were people at the summit who were relatively new to cf (as well as "old hands" like Ray Camden, myself, etc--and every level of cf experience in between).

As for this group, like many, they've suffered as much from a change in the nature of online help. As Jim noted, the cfml slack is very active, as is the Facebook cf group, and still others. I keep a list of them at my cf411.com site, specifically cf411.com/cfcommhelp.

Here I am, 22 years later, still doing CF.  The Feds still use it.  I've switched to Lucee for my personal projects.  I do miss NC Devcon though.

Still doing CF along with devops, qa, etc.  Love to code and solve problems!
Lucee and Ortus' "Box" ecosystem have really modernized CFML.

Still using CF every day. I can't come up with a good enough reason to go away from it and move to anything else. PHP, Python, etc... they all work great but nothing is as easy to build real projects with than CF (for me).

I sure do miss NCDevCon!

Fun to see this list active for the first time in how long? haha

FWIW, Adobe CF should not be left entirely out of the kudos for modernizing CFML. :-) Again, not every modernization effort has come first from either of those, though of course many have.

If anyone's interested, I have a talk on "ColdFusion: More modern than most realize", addressing the many ways cf and cfml have modernized in recent releases. It's at carehart.org/presentations (pdf and video). Yes, it's presented from an ACF perspective, but even someone who's switched to Lucee can still benefit (though, no, I don't in that talk try to identify who came up with what first).

The goal was just to show how far CF and CFML have come, for those either too busy to have noticed (while using ACF), or who had indeed stopped paying attention to ACF, or indeed for folks coming into (or being asked to work with) CF.

Oh yes - didn't mean to come off as anti ACF LOL.  We're working on finally updating our CF and I finally got a chance to play around with CF2021 and the cfpm (ColdFusion Package Manager) is the bomb!

I think our little eco-system is doing just fine :)   Lucee has filled the "it's not free" complaint, and Ortus has filled the gap for support, tooling, and infrastructure.

I haven't touched Coldfusion since I left Duke University in 2013.

Our Fundraising CRM platform is .NET based.  We do customizations for it primarily using XML and lots of SQL, and a little bit of .NET.  I also manage our online giving pages so I got pretty heavy into Bootstrap and continue to do a lot of work in Javascript/jQuery.

I no longer do any freelance or open source work, prefer not to work outside business hours :)

Instead, I've got about a zillion hobbies, one of which I'm turning into a small business doing sublimation work (see www.rickmadethis.com ) ... just getting started and plan to primarily sell my stuff at local craft / makers shows.  My first event is the Raleigh MAKRs Society Holiday Festival December 10th on FAyetteville St.

I "Hung up my semicolon spurs" in 2016 and joined Telerik to do Product Marketing for NativeScript. Since, I've worked in technical B2B marketing in Mobility, Enterprise SaaS, technical consulting, and now IoT.

I do miss NCDevCon also. The event was an annual highlight for me.

One thing we could consider is a Triangle Lunch. We might even be able to drag Jim Priest away from Mayberry....

Anyone up for something like that?

Great idea. I’d be down for TACFUG lunch and catch up with folks. Or happy hour if that’s easier with driving times, etc.

I'm game. It's awesome to see where people are now! I thought Dan would have been part of the matrix by now *laughs*. As for me, I've continued to write coldfusion, wrote and sold an event platform during COVID, and now work for ARELLO (Professional org for Real Estate regulators). I also continue to support AnimalParkNc.org (formerly Conservators Center) and their needs.

Working with the government, you'd be amazed how many offices continue to use Coldfusion/Lucee because of how powerful and cost efficient it can be compared to other options. Its allowed me to quickly build some powerful dashboards to support our membership. While I realize ColdFusion isn't "hip" anymore, I don't see it going anywhere soon.

I've moved back to the DC area, I'm more on the sys-admin side now, running a CommonSpot stack for a federal agency

It'll be interesting to see if we can find a convenient location for everyone.

What would you think about meeting in Morrisville/RTP at 11:45 on Wednesday the 26th?

I dunno if I can do lunch but I can try.

If we did an after work thing, I would suggest The Boxyard RTP.

Nice to see some activity in group. CF is no more my area but people are. After work will be a good option.
