UsetheShape Selection tool to selectshapes with one click. If you convert a shape into a bitmap elementby simplifying the shape layer, the Shape Selection tool will nolonger select the shape (use the Move tool instead).

If alayer contains multiple shapes, you can reposition all the shapestogether using the Move tool. However, if you want to repositiona specific shape in a layer, you must use the Shape Selection tool.

Another type of basic element you can add to your graphic template is a "Shape" element ["text" element as well as "Image" element were previously discussed]. Clicking on the shape element icon will create a new layer within your graphic template. Once you click to add the shape element, a dropdown will appear below the icon with shape options. After selecting a shape it will populate in your canvas on the graphic template builder. Selecting the shape in your builder [or from the layer list] will make a new menu appear on the right sidebar where you can adjust the position, size, color fill, and many other attributes.

Before we dive into the formatting details, let's start on the left sidebar of the builder. Now that you have selected your "Shape" element and it is in your builder, look under "Layers". We will walk through some ways to customize each layer.

Size: Click on the shape and drag the corners to adjust the size, or set exact width & height in the right rail. Between the width and height numbers is a lock. When locked, your shape will maintain the original aspect ratio. When unlocked, you can control the height and width independently of one another.

Distribute: You need to have at least three layers selected to use distribute. This will allow you to make the horizontal or vertical spacing between selected layers even. Best practice of this is to first align the layers, and then distribute the spacing.

Now that you're all set with the "Shape" element, you can move on to the next element to add your graphic template. Next up is the "QR Code" element. If you're finished, you're ready to produce with your templates. Feel free to take a look at "Getting Started with Producer" if you're not already familiar or you can head to Producer to begin building out your playlist in order to take your content live.

first thing I did was draw out the star shape, copy/paste mask path into null object. and linked the particular position ( ALT + click postion)path to my null object so that works perfect, follows the shape of the path.

Once you have the scene set up and the Element 3D layer has been created go to the effect controls for E3D and look for "Create Null". This will create a null for you from which you can control all basic movement. You can then pick whip or option click or write the expression manually for whatever you need. That null becomes the master control. I usually name is MC1 for E3D layer 1 and MC2, MC3 etc if there are several E3D layers or if I am working using groups in E3D.

But then since I'm trying to achieve it using 3D element, I cannot understand what is going on with the particles. I tried pick whipping almost every position to get the desired result. But the particles are not like in the above sample video, they seem to be orbiting the 3D circle. I found in element 3D the create null object in the world transform preference but cannot figure out how to go on from here.

To use shape elements and text elements, you must return them from the _generate_elements method of the LayoutView of a PCell that you define. This in explained in more detail in this guide together with some examples.

On the other hand, reference elements, which are also known as instances, should be returned from the _generate_instances method of the LayoutView to create a hierarchical layout.Click here for a tutorial on how to do so.

Shape Elements are basically elements that take a shape and a layer. Hence they provide a way to place geometrical objects (shapes)on your layout. IPKISS contains a range of different types of shape elements, but these can all be reduced to 3 distinct types:

Reference elements (also called instances) are used to place a reference to a layout view of another PCell in the layout instead of the element itself.Doing this allows re-use of repeating layout information, by defining the unit cell in a separate container (PCell) and referring to it from other PCells. In this way, a layout is hierarchically structured. Reference elements can apply transformations on the referred layout, withoutchanging the original layout itself. You could for example place a ringresonator on your layout and place another translated copy next to it.

If you want to keep two or more layers together, all you have to do is make one of the desired layers the active layer and then click on the link icon in the other desired layers. In this example, I have linked the caption to the thought bubble, so now they will move together. The advantage to linking is that it takes just a couple of clicks of your mouse to accomplish.

To group layers, you first select all the layers you want to group together, then click on the Group Layer icon at the top of the Layers panel (here shown in the red box). Once you form a group, it is open by default (here shown by the red arrow) and the each of the layers in the group is slightly indented. You can see the two layers that are in the group: the caption and the thought bubble shape.

This can be done by changing the color of the shapes. LightBurn will attempt to map the color defined in the SVG to the closest layer in LightBurn. Matching the RGB color from LightBurn precisely is your best bet.

However if the shape in that element is some figure I want to engrave, e.g. with some gradient, then giving it a color at the level of the element might just interfere with the colors of the actual figures

I'm creating a thank you card that has a front and a back using two artboards in Illustrator. In the card design I am using a floral element and have placed it on the side of one artboard. However, I realised that because of its size and position, parts of it stretches onto my second artboard.

In Photoshop, I would use a layer mask to remove it from the second artboard. However I am not sure if I have done it correctly or if I am using the wrong thing, but does a clipping mask apply in this situtation for Illustrator?

You can add a Layer Clipping Mask to a layer though. However, you can only do this once per layer. So it's best to manually create a layer for each artboard. Note that Illustrator won't do that for you. So you have to organize as you construct.

To make a Layer Clipping Mask, draw a rectangle on the layer encompassing the area you want visible. Then, with that rectangle selected, choose Make Clipping Mask From the Layers Panel Menu.

I'm not really sure why you have so many colors for layers, they don't really correlate to anything useful so I'd fix that up immediately. You should also be working in groups not layers inside layers ideally.

That being said, right now you are selecting the background layer. You need to be on the desired layer, have the path you want to use to become the mask as the top-most object and then go to Object>Clipping Mask>Make or Ctrl+7.

The is a script fitobjecttoArtboardbounds (basically it resizes any shape the size of artboard, best works with rectangles of course). This way i can easily mask everything inside the artboards and contents never overlap.

Hello, I am working on a python script that allows me to add some functions to napari viewer, and one of the functions we would like to implement is the individualization of nuclei labeled in 3d, e.i. been able to visualize one or different nuclei labeled in 3D individually. Besides, I would like to also visualize a shape layer that can act as bounding boxes for each nucleus individualized. For this, I guess I will need to return 2 layers in my magicgui instead of one. Is this even possible? Here I leave you an example of what I want to obtain and the function I construct to perform the individualization. Thaks for your help

What about if I want to apply the individualization process at the same time on the image and label layers? So far, I am just using the data from the label layers but also I would like to use this data to extract the corresponding nuclei from the fluorescence image, meaning that from two layers I will generate 3 new layers. Is that possible too?

I'm having an issue that I'm not really sure is an issue or if I'm just missing something. I'm an organization freak. I like to group my various elements (curves, shapes, etc.) to keep them easy to find. The issue I'm having is, I place my newest curve in a group that I want my next few elements to live in, but then when I create the next curve, it NEVER places it inside of the group that I just created, ALWAYS outside of it. I want them to automatically place them in the group I just created, right above the last element that I made, similar to the way that PS and AI do. Otherwise it makes things more difficult and time-consuming to organize. Is there a setting that I'm missing or is that just an oversight in the app?

@chile9 You say "I place my newest curve in a group that I want my next few elements to live in..." If you mean that you are starting a new group, then you need at least one curve or shape layer which will appear at the top of your layers stack. You can then group that single layer, and it will show as the first layer in the new group. If you will then open either the new group or an existing group in which you have your curves, shapes, etc. and create a new curve or shape, it will appear at the top of the layer stack in the same group. If you close the group and then create a new curve or shape, it will appear outside the group. The trick is to be sure that the appropriate (Group) layer is opened. Top example is Designer. Lower example is Photo.

Is there any chance to prevent MS Visio (preferably 2010) connectors from routing when a text block is placed on top of it? I want to achieve the effect as if the text block is on the upper layer, above the shapes and connectors, but that the layers are completely separate (not affecting each other's layout).
