Hi All
This is regarding one of the errors reported after the Cork IV, in which Ciaran said that he was unable to input names with apostrophes, like O'Neill

I observed that the error was inconsistent, it did not appear on my Linux machine, but on the Windows machine it occured all the time. I finally nailed it down to a config variable in the php.ini file, names 'magic_quotes_gpc'.

http://sg.php.net/manual/en/ref.info.php#ini.magic-quotes-gpc

I assume that this variable is set both on SmoothTournament site and on my Linux installation. However, it was NOT set on the Windows all-in-one installation. After setting it to 'On', I was able to input names with apostrophes just fine. Klaas, you may want to keep that in mind, the next time you create a Windows all-in-one package.

Hi Deepak, others,

This feature is DEPRECATED and REMOVED as of PHP 6.0.0. Relying on this feature is highly discouraged.

that's the first thing I see if I open that page......

I am a big fan of a different solution that does not require this variable.

Oh ya, i forgot the warning. First of all, I do not know when PHP 6.0 is out. Second, I am sure it will require careful review to find out where else the magic_quotes_gpc is working its magic in Tabbie codebase.

This solution is only pending a careful review and adding functions like addslashes wherever Data is going into the DB, which could be undertaken when we are cleaning up the codebase post-Worlds.
