I cancelled during the trial. It appeared pretty darn complicated. I was able to import some parts but I think the scaling was off, and I couldnt figure out how to do the common line cutting. It looked like it would be a week or more learning curve and I had stuff to cut so I cancelled.

I have been using Pronest LT by Hypertherm for several months now. The staff had to create a custom cut settings for the Langmuir Systems beds. If you get with Ken Moran at Hypertherm, he will have the custom file. It is a huge time saver. The Hypertherm team has excellent communication and custom service. Previously I was manually placing parts to make a nest in Fushion 360 and ended up with a lot of wasted space and it took a TON of time. Pronest is definitely worth it.

At the moment we use AutoCAD Structural Detailing and ProNest and we have to manually create a polyline for each unique plate, then save that polyline in a 2010 dwg file, then bring that in to ProNest where we nest it and print a copy of all plates to be nested for our CNC guy, as well as save the .cnc file to a specific folder.

Also, ProNest can create a printout for us that shows the plate layouts, thickness, overall dimensions, and we can write notes about forming and hole punching. I've attached a copy so you can see what I mean. It's kind of like an overview for our CNC guy so he doesn't have to go count all the plates on the drawings.

Go to Output tab, nc& dxf,nc settings so you can set the dxf version, for last just simply click dxf(plates) and would generate all plates in single file, ready to be import, maybe you would need to add new layers on the pronest so you dont mody one bye one (example outercountur)

I'm using ProNest to generate burn profiles from my Inventor .ipt parts. When I have a plate that is bent in two directions, ProNest will only recognize a bend line in one direction, because technically the other bend line should be scribed on the other side of the plate. I want both bend lines to be scribed on the same side. I know how to fix this using AutoCad, but that takes several steps that I am trying to eliminate. I need to go directly from .ipt's to a successful burn profile. There is an example below. Thank you in advance for any help.

i generally like to setup different layers (with different colours) for each type of geometry, eg top of sheet or bottom of sheet, edges, surface geometry etc. i also setup to convert continuous entities to polylines at this export stage too. it makes for neater flat patterns.

While I was hoping there was a way to get everything to work directly from the .ipt file without opening the part, your solution seems to be the quickest. I have to do several hundred of these a week so eliminating steps is very important. Would you mind sending me your configuration files? I'd like to see exactly how you set it up. I am very good at using Inventor, but I know almost nothing about AutoCad. Thanks again.

you should do this particular method from the .ipt file on the flat pattern browser node. some people like to export face, and some like to export the 2d geometry from the idw. i prefer to do it the way i mentioned, & i guess that there are pros and cons for each.

also, after you have exported the geometry to dxf, you can open it and clean it up a little further with autocad using old commands like "overkill". it will delete little overlaps etc, convert some things to polylines, close gaps etc...

just save it to a local folder (eg i use "_dxf in tray" on c drive). when you are exporting your next file, make sure you look at the option to use a config file, then choose this one, then save it over the top of itself from within the export window, that way it will think you made it yourself, and you will always see it there in future as the default export config.

Decades of Hypertherm cutting expertise is built-in to the software. These cutting parameters are applied automatically, based on your specific material type, thickness and part geometry. This results in better cut quality, including cleaner edges, sharper corners and improved hole quality.

I'm stumped - any help is appreciated since I'm new to managing anything related to SQL. We're a small business using ProNest (steel plate nesting software). They have an option to setup an SQL database to track inventory. We have 3 users total. I am one of the users as well as the host for the database.

Following ProNest's instructions, my computer is all set up to host the shared database. The last step listed was to modify the "db.ini" file in the ProNest folder for the other users so that their computers know where to look to access my computer's database. However, the other users are getting errors when ProNest starts and attempts to connect to the database. I have SSMS installed and can log in to the database and view logs. Here is what I get during the failed attempts to connect: "Login failed for 'MYCOMPUTERNAME\Guest'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided. [CLIENT: 192.168.0.20] Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 5". This tells me the database is seeing the attempted connection from the other computer and blocking it. I assume this might have something to do with adding the user on our network to the Logins folder in SSMS.

The other computers don't need to install Express. You would typically use SQL authentication when you don't have a domain. Is this an option with ProNest? Otherwise you need matching logins and passwords on the PC that has the SQL Server database. And then you add them to the logins. And it becomes a problem with password changes which is why SQL authentication tends to be less problematic in your situation.

Thank you for the quick reply Sue! Below are the contents of the db.ini file on the other computers that ProNest uses to connect to my database - is this where I can change it to SQL authentication? If so, how do I do so and how do I set it up on the other computers to access the database? I can tell you on SSMS under "Security" settings for the ProNest database, it is set to "SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode".

As for the Windows Authentication method, are you saying I simply need to add the same user & password of the computer trying to access the database to my local users list? For example: if his login is "John" and password is "123456789" on his computer, that is the same credentials I would add to my local users?

Yup...that's what I was saying. Try it with one of the users - add them to the users on your PC using the same case, password, everything. Then add that login to SQL Server, map that login to the ProNest database. Did they give you any other information in terms of any roles they should be in or permissions in the database? It should be in the documentation you were following when setting this up. Should be..doesn't mean it's there ? But look through to find any info they have in regards to the setup the logins, users.

Sue - adding the user to my computer then adding it to the Logins in the SSMS worked! They are able to connect and edit the database. I believe the ProNest Shared DB exe modified all the proper SQL parameters (including firewall rules) during install - I'm getting no errors or issues when connecting. Thank you again for the quick and simple solution!

Out of curiosity what version of the database software are you using for pronest 2019? did you need to update from the 2015 database server software or was it compatible? The installer file i have is PNSharedDB11_00.exe.

Hi guys. I am clearly new on here and new to autocad as well. I am using pronest 8 and autocad 2011. I am using for a steel service center with a burn table. 400A hypertherm plasma, dual oxy fuel torches and a 30hp drill. Im sure I will have many questions but to start with:

I want to draw parts in autocad and then transfer them to pronest. How do I do this. I have been struggling for a while now. Also with me using this to draw parts for a plasma what kind of template should I be using? If anyone can help me I would be so greatful. And once we get that out of the way if someone can point me in the right direction of like a beginners manual that would be great!

A template governs what layers, textstyles, Leaderstyles, Page Setups (A4, A3, A1 for example) and a few more things are pre-loaded in your drawing. You can several templates to choose from, varying for instance for which client you have, or what part you are drawing. But there is no absolute need to have a special template from the start, use one of AutoCADs own if your company don't have any and don't worry about it right now - you will learn more about that in your course I assume.

No "special" template is required to draw parts for a plasma just as there is no special template required for drawing a house floor plan, a mechanical drawing of a gear or an electrical schematic using plain AutoCAD.

You start with opening the default template, acad.dwt, and add the features you want (refer to Tiger's post above) and save this as your new default template using a different name. Thus, in essence, this unique or "special" template is what you'll use for all new future drawings.
