Hello everyone,

I was looking to send a brief description of the Taarifa project to a colleague of mine but wasn't able to find a succinct description.

Does a up-to-date succinct overview of the project currently exist?

If not, I'd like to offer to write up a blog post that does. If you all would be so kind to perform a mind dump into this thread I will stick it all together into a write up which you can then post.

Some primer questions:

Describe the Taarifa in a few sentences.

What is the status of Taarifa's deployment? Who is using it and how is it working?

What are some recent milestones that have been passed or are nearly complete?

How is development going? What are some pain points or areas that could use more help?

Have there been any recent success stories?

Has the project appeared in the news recently?

Describe the current code base in technical detail, what tools are being used how does it work (in a general sense).

If y'all could just drop in any info you have I'll do my best to put it all together. I think I'd like to break it up into a overview then dive into the esoteric technical details.

Cheers,
Drew

Not really. There's a few bits (somewhat out of date) at
https://taarifa.hackpad.com

That'd be brilliant, many thanks for the offer!

I put all these in a hackpad, that should make contributions easier:

I’ve made a short first pass, I’ll go through again shortly.

Best,

Mark

Willow,

Florian created a hackpad:

Most of Drew's questions were answered there. I am unaware of any post that Drew may or may not have written based on that information, however.

Do you have anything that you would like to add to the hackpad? Are you looking for some external press or posts about the project?

Hey Drew,

Did you get any further on writing up a post? With the next few weeks of HDIF and in Tanzania something like it would be pretty awesome. If you need any help, just ping the list!

Ta,

Mark

Hey everyone,

I'll have some time to write this up on Monday. Please make any late additions before 11am EST. I'll compile it into a draft and submit it for review.

Cheers,
Drew

Cool, thanks!

Right now, only Tanzania is mentioned. Hasn't Taarifa been in use in other places?

Hi, meant to pop into this thread before. Held off till I had some real free time. Tried to install tarrifia for spaceapps... Assuming zero knowledge to create an install script from my bash hist.

My journey that weekend was a lot of reading "waterpoints" dismissing that as too built up to adapt, there was another one core ish, had the good docs but assumed
I knew pip and mongo, Florian pointed me at "actuality" read the code, found it familiar and adaptable, got as far as installing pip on base debian.

Then thought, hmm, mongo needs an install and some checking. Then I ran out of time. But I saved the server. So I was planning to go back to it at the end of this month and finish and write it up. That is when hack in the box in Amsterdam is.

I am aware the optimum time for this work is before that. Happy to turn that server back on if you want, happy to spin up a new "noob" server. Etc... Obvs I want it up so I can also write up hardening rules for an install.

So happy to contribute, happy to work with a group to get the noob install docs up to speed.

Paul

P.s. Sorry about typos
