Resurfacing Season

DOT's road warriors have repaired over 250,000 potholes this winter maintenance season. Pothole repairs continue across the boroughs, but now that the weather is consistently above freezing our crews have entered Mill and Pave season!

Milling is the process of grinding off the top layer of asphalt on a roadway. After the street has been milled there is a two week gap to allow utilities and others to repair the infrastructure below the street's surface. Resurfacing continues as our crews pave an asphalt overlay onto the roadway.
Each week DOT posts the resurfacing schedule for all borough on our website: on.nyc.gov/resurfacingschedule.

You may want to also check out theDailyPothole.tumblr.com for a peek at our crews in action!

Thanks for your patience while we work to repair and refresh our roads!

See a pothole? Please report it to 311. You may also request for a road to be resurfaced via 311.

Bicycle Helmet Fitting & Distribution Events

If you're biking, please wear a helmet. Helmets are required by law for children age 13 or younger and working cyclists, but helmets are a good idea for cyclists of all ages!

NYC DOT fits and distributes the official New York City bicycle helmet at events throughout the city. In order to receive a helmet you must: be present, learn how to properly fit and wear a helmet, and sign a waiver (a parent or legal guardian must sign for children under 18). Find a helmet fitting below, or on the DOT Events Calendar.

Brooklyn Bridge Construction Update

As the weather begins to warm up and pedestrian and cyclist volumes increase, we kindly remind everyone to cautiously share the narrowed path at the tower locations on the Brooklyn Bridge, where construction operations will be taking place.

And don't forget about the lovely bike path and pedestrian path on the nearby Manhattan Bridge!

Learn more about the Brooklyn Bridge project at nyc.gov/dot or on Facebook.
