John,
I recently noticed that memo text for an obit note appeared in the citation for the obit rather than with the obit event itself.  I've been struggling with the Note Option in T2G.

After reading the T2G help file entry for the umpteenth time, I finally understood the None option.  The help says " The Note Option property should be set to "None" in all but rare circumstances. "

I think I had been distracted by the fact that nearly all of the entries for the Note Option were set to "Move to text/citation". When I first started using T2G I really doubt that I would have set so many of the tag types to that option especially because not all were so set.

What is/was the out of the box default value for the Note Option?  In hindsight, I might have expected it to be None which, for my longer notes (longest is below 255 characters), would have kept the memo text with the tag rather than moved to citation.

Have I understood correctly that if my preference is to keep the memo text with the tag most or all of the tag type Note Options should be set to None?
Thanks, Dick

Richard,

You may have used the Utilities > Load Template submenu to load a template file where the Note Options were set to Move to text/citation. I think the Ancestry Tree template has it that way because Ancestry’s GEDCOM import is … let’s be kind and say it is unusual.

Except for specific target applications, it’s best to leave Note Option set to “None”.

Yes, it would seem to be the case that I had loaded a tmp;ate at ;east once.  I had long ago forgotten about that which was probably at least a few years ago.  I see one output ged file with "ancestry tree" in its name.  I had created a template file for my preferred target (TNG) that had all None values.  It has been loaded and saved for posterity.
Thanks for the reminder and help.
Dick
