Using GEDCOM from TMG2Ged ver 2 (Ancestry template), I just noticed that godchildren are listed as an actual son/daughter of the godparent(s) on Ancestry's profile page. I have read Help for TMG2Ged's Parent Labels section, but not sure what to modify.

Have tried both Parent Labels > Method: "Custom "FAM.CHIL" and "None" with the same result as above.

This godparent/child problem did not occur using the MyHeritage template.
               Thanks!        ~Carol in New Mexico

Carol,

Are you using TMG's relationship tags to record godparents?

Godchild has Father-God and Mother-God tags linking to those two individuals (my parents). Each of the Godparents has a Dau-God tag connecting "Parent" and Child. In Ancestry, that Godchild is listed as an additional/actual child of my parents.

Carol,

So, the answer is yes, you are using TMG's relationship tags to record godparents.

  1. Are the godparent/godchild relationships primary?

  1. In TMG to GEDCOM, in the Family section, is Primary Only checked or unchecked?

<<Are the godparent/godchild relationships primary?>>  No, none of the "God-" tags are primary for G-parents or child.

<<In TMG to GEDCOM, in the Family section, is Primary Only checked or unchecked?>>  Primary Only is unchecked; Primary Tag Sequence is "Before non-primary (first)."

Carol,

If I recall correctly, you should not include godparents added via TMG non-primary relationship tags when your target is Ancestry. I am not sure Ancestry handles any non-primary parent/child links, but it's a good guess that Ancestry won't handle godparents handled that way. When creating a GEDCOM file for Ancestry, you'll have to set "Family.Primary Only" to checked.

You can try leaving "Family.Primary Only" unchecked and changing the Primary Tag Sequence to "After non-primary (last)". I doubt that will work, but it's worth a try, I suppose.

As far as I know, many other programs do not support non-primary parents. Furthermore, I don't know any that support godparents the way TMG does where godparents may be recorded as if they were actual parents.
