Hello Troop 2!
Spring has sprung and lots of things are going on with the Troop this month, so lets get right to it!
Roadside Cleanuo
Our semi-annual roadside cleanup will happen on Saturday morning, May 11th. We will meet in the Paul Wolff parking lot, as always, at 8:45 AM. We will do the cleanup from 9 - 10, and then head over to Victory Movers to do flower pick up. A Scout is CLEAN and this is a required activity for everyone active in the Troop. If you cannot make it for some reason, the Scout needs to talk to me and let me know why.
Flower Pick up
The orders are in! Pick-up will be this coming Saturday, May 11th, just in time for Mother's Day! Pick up will begin at 10:00 AM, immediately following Roadside Cleanup. The pick up location will be the same as last year, at Victory Movers, 1895 Big Timber Road. We are still in need of some parents to help with the organization and distribution of the flowers on the 11th. Please step up to help out with this as it is not easy, and I really don't want Cathy doing this all by herself! Please reach out to myself or Cathy Lawson to volunteer. Thank you!!
Spring Court of Honor
This will be held on Monday, May 13th, and will be at Bethlehem Lutheran in Elgin from 7:00 - 8:00. The address is 340 Grand Blvd, right across from Lord's Park. All advancement achievements should be into Mr. Myers at this point.
May Campout - Prairie Trail Bike Trip - May 18th and 19th
We are planning a bike trip from Carpentersville to just south of the Wisconsin border (approximately 30 miles each way). We will leave from the parking lot of Otto Engineering (10:00 AM departure) and ride north along the Fox River Trail and connect to the Prairie Trail in Algonquin. We will plan a lunch break about two hours along the trail. Our camping destination is the North Branch Conservation Area in Richmond, IL where we will tent camp for the night. The following morning we will ride the return trip back to Carpentersville with a meal break at the midpoint of the return trip.
What to bring:
- Your bike and necessary safety equipment
- Clothes for all anticipated weather conditions
- Water bottle
Tents, food, gear and backpacks will be shuttled between various rally points and our camping destination.
We need a head count ASAP so we can reserve the proper number of campsites. Please let it be known to us next Monday at the Court of Honor if you plan on attending
Cemetery Flags at Bluff City Cemetery
As per tradition, we will be placing the American Flags on graves the Wednesday before Memorial Day, which is May 22nd.. This will take place from 6 - 7:30. This is a VERY important tradition for Troop 2 and I expect all of the scouts to participate. Be there, rain or shine, in Class A's, of course. The Men and Women that served and died for our Country did not have a choice to do so only when the sun was shining! We will then be removing the flags we placed the following Wednesday, May 29th, same time and same place.
Memorial Day = Shift to Summer
Monday, May 27th is Memorial Day, so we will not be having a meeting. The following Monday, which is June 3rd, we will begin our Summer outdoor meetings at Tyler Creek. Our meeting time will also shift for the summer to take advantage of the daylight. Summer meeting time is 6:30 - 8:00.
Like I said, a lot going on! Always fun stuff with Troop 2! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email or text me. I will make every effort to respond in a timely manner.
