Lindsey,
Three things:
#1 – I use quicksets, and for the first several years I used a pump never had an issue with them. Then, starting about a year ago I would say, on average 1 in every 10 has been faulty. And I did have one recent change time where I had to do it three times before I got one that functioned correctly.
#2 – Medtronic has sent me replacements for the faulty quicksets I encountered. They even will send you a special container to send them the faulty ones (for their research I assume) –if you still have them available.
#3 - Based on your e-mail, I am now going to start a log of any problems I have in changing pump related equipment. Maybe we, all of us on Medtronic pumps, can compare notes via e-mail and/or at a meeting in 3 or 4 months. If you are interested in maintaining a log –just send a quick note and I will make a note to follow up on this a few months from now.

I have had many bad sets. I save them, with the intent to send them back, but have never gotten around to it.
Kris,
Yes you are right, it is an excellent resource to have.
However, not all of us can spare the $100. I can barely buy groceries some weeks.
Thus, I communicate through the emails and try to give any kind of helpful diabetes information I may have.
I’ve had diabetes for 35 years and have several complications.
It’s very helpful for me to be able to communicate to other diabetics, even if I cannot afford the yearly fee.
Sincerely,
Natalie Helberg

I hope everyone who sees the power in being able to communicate like this along with the great meetings (with educators, endocrinologists, companies), the conference, research updates etc., etc. take the time to join/sign up for the coming year. One little piece of information picked up to help our health is worth much more than the $100 being requested. I learn something new at each and every meeting.

wow, what an amazing response. I have to say, I have not used this list serve much, but now I see how useful it is! I can't believe how many others are having problems also. I am not glad about this, but it does make me feel better because for a bit I thought I was going a little nuts (am sure you can all relate). The log idea is genius! I will start that right away and, yes, lets check back in a few weeks to see if a pattern emerges. And everyone make sure you note lot/serial numbers!thanks so much for everyone's feedback. I will let you know what medtronic has to say.Lindsey

Yes, that's happened to me recently as well. Two weeks ago I had a bad reservoir. The insulin was leaking and I wasn't getting appropriate doses. I was in the 400s the whole day and until I realized it was the reservoir and not the site or the tubing. It was a pain and it ended up exhausting me.There's something going on...

Hey everyone,Just wondering if anyone else has been having frequent problems with bad sets AND uses a medtronic pump. I recently saw my doctor and told her I had been having more problems with bad sets lately and she thinks there is a problem with the medtronic reservoirs not working right. One day, I had to change 5 times before I got one to work (which turns you into a lunatic!). She has had many of her patients complaining of the same thing, but they used quicksets and I use a sillohuette..so the resevoirs makes sense. I am calling Medtronic today!
I know of a couple of women who rotate to the upper outer arm area and thread the tube up their sleeve, and wear the pump in their bra. They say it is very comfortable. When using your abdomen, try to rotate to the outer abdomen, sides, and even around to the low back if you can reach and if you have a little something to pinch back there.

I would love to hear from anyone doing arms. I just can't imagine having a tube to my arm. Would welcome additional sites, tho.
