Tuesday's Fundamentals
8-5 Stride Step
So I'm done working for the Summer now and the only two things I have to do before tryouts are plan the band dance and get excited for football season, so I can pretty much hardly contain myself right now. Since I have nothing going on, if anyone wants
to head to the practice field at any time shoot me a text and I'll be there.
Tomorrow after Summer Sessions we need to figure out F-Night. For those of you who aren't aware, F-Night is Monday the 5th, so we essentially need to be done filming this coming weekend.
I'd like some feedback on this next point,
Charlie's Oval Walk has been one of the most important parts of my gameday, and it without a doubt gave The Tail enough power to secure Ryan Mallett's pass into the hands of Solomon Thomas. I'd like to make the Walk more of an intimate experience for the
entire Row, so here's kind of what I was thinking...
I. The first Oval Walk (September 3rd) would occur before report time as normal (5AMish), and the ENTIRE row would be present to go through the experience with the rookies.
*I would ideally like this to be the practice for every game, but I'm expecting some of you will want to sleep in a little longer, so the contingency is below...
II. Every Walk from the second game on will occur right after the Gray Day rehearsal. We would all go to the East end of the Oval directly after practice and go through the walk together.
III. There would still be a Gameday Walk for everyone who loves the experience of the Oval at twilight.
IV. Everyone will memorize all three verses to 'Carmen' Ohio and will learn their respective 4 part harmonies from the Navy Hymn.
Soprano - Effer
Alto - Solo/1st
Tenor - 2nd
Bass - 3rd
*We will adjust voicing for balance.
Oh come let's sing Ohio's praise
and songs to Alma Mater raise.
While our hearts rebounding thrill
with joy which death alone can still.
Summer's heat or Winter's cold
the seasons pass the years will roll.
Time and change will surely show
how firm thy friendship O-HI-O!
These jolly days of priceless worth
by far the gladdest days on Earth.
Soon will pass and we not know
how dearly we love Ohio.
We should strive to keep thy name
of fair repute and spotless fame,
so in college halls we'll grow
to love thee better O-HI-O!
Though age may dim our mem'rys store
we'll think of happy days of yore.
True to friend and frank to foe
as sturdy sons of Ohio.
If on seas of care we roll
'neath blackened sky or barren shoal,
thoughts of thee bid darkness go
dear Alma Mater O-HI-O!
So start memorizing...
Pre-order Buckeye Nation! It looks like a pretty solid CD. My only two beefs with it is the choice to leave out La Suerte in favor of Here's that Rainy Day and Sweet Caroline for Livin' on a Prayer. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the song selection.
Lastly, continue to think of some APPROPRIATE stories to tell the candidates these last 7 Summer Sessions.
Gee will be speaking next week and we are currently trying to get Coach Fickell, Craig Krenzel, and a few others for some inspiration.
Bucks,
Hoff
Post Scriptum: Sorry about the length of this.
