I have a problem connecting two machines over PPP over ISDN. Maybe someone
can help, it's really going on my nerves :-(
OK, here's what i did: I have one machine with Win95 acting as a fileserver
(M1, see pic) attached to the ISDN. Another machine (M2) acts as a router from
ISDN to a LAN. A third machine i located in the LAN and tries to connect
to M1 to access the file system of M1.
(M1)--modem-- ISDN --modem--(M2)-- LAN --M3
The route over the ISDN is a TCP/IP over ML-PPP. The modems are Zyxel Omni.net
(external). M1 is a notebook with Win95, M2 is a PC with FreeBSD 2.2.1, M3
again is a notebook with Win95.
At the moment the scenario does work more or less. If M3 opens a file on M1,
the router M2 will build a PPP-connection to M1 and the data can flow.
However, i've two problems:
- the connection is very slow, about avg 2 KB over one or two (!) ISDN
B-channels. Round-trip delays (ping) are about avg 170 ms which seems
to be to long for 64 bytes.
- terminating a connection from the router seem to cause a correct hangup,
but the next attempt to connect again fails (Cause: Busy). After some
10-20 sec a new connect succeeds.
I have tested the modems, the cables, looked propably a doozend times into
the FreeBSD config-files and the Win95 properties. I've played around with
AT-commands, HW/SW-Handshake, but no matter what i did, performance always
was far to low.
If you have any hints, please tell me. I don't even now if the problem is
the Win95 or the FreeBSD, HW or SW. Attached are parts of my ppp-setups and
the ppp-log file from the router.
Thanks,
H.-P.
(Apologies if you received this twice, i had some problems with my news
reader )
