Common Issues and Quick Fixes
Before asking for help, please check if your issue is listed below. These are the most common situations encountered by users.
1. Error: "No folder with demo files" / User Mismatch
- Issue: You receive an error saying "No folder with demo files in the following directory..." when launching T-LAB. This happens when the Windows user launching the software (e.g., Mary) is different from the user who installed it (e.g., Marc).
- Solution: T-LAB must be installed and used by the same Windows user. You have two options:
- Option A: Copy the T-LAB PLUS folder from the original installer's Documents folder to the current user's Documents folder (for ex.: from “C:\Users\marc\OneDrive\Documents\T-LAB PLUS” to “C:\Users\mary\OneDrive\Documents\T-LAB PLUS”).
- Option B: Uninstall T-LAB and reinstall it while logged in as the current user.
2. Application Errors, Delays, or Sluggish Performance
- Issue: T-LAB runs slowly or crashes during pre-processing.
- Cause: Your T-LAB PLUS folder (in Documents) is being synced in real-time by cloud services like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive.
- Solution: Pause or turn off synchronization for the T-LAB folder in your cloud settings while working with the software.
3. "T-LAB is not responding" Message
- Issue: Windows displays a "Not Responding" message while T-LAB is working.
- Solution: Do not close the program. This behavior is normal during intensive pre-processing steps. Please wait for the calculation to finish; forcing it to close will interrupt the analysis.
4. Analyzing Texts in Latin
5. Error: "Existing prior version of T-LAB identified" during installation
- Issue: The installation of the freeware version of T-LAB cannot proceed because Windows detects a previous version of T-LAB that wasn't fully removed
- Solution: > You need to manually delete a hidden system folder before restarting the installer:
1. Show Hidden Items: Open File Explorer, go to View, and ensure Hidden items is checked (on Windows 11: View > Show > Hidden items).
2. Locate the Folder: Navigate to C:\ProgramData.
3. Delete: Find and manually delete the T-LAB PLUS subfolder.
4. Reinstall: Run the T-LAB installer again.
Note: This folder is different from the one in your personal "Documents" directory; it is a system-wide folder used for installation data.
6. Bypassing Windows SmartScreen & UAC Warnings
- Issue: Due to recent changes in Microsoft's security policies, Windows Defender SmartScreen may not immediately recognize the latest T-LAB installer.
- Solution: Please rest assured that the file is 100% safe and signed with our official digital certificate. You can safely complete the installation by following these three quick steps:
- On the blue Windows screen, click "More info" under the warning text.
- Verify that the publisher is listed as T-LAB DI LANCIA FRANCO, then click "Run anyway".
- When the gray User Account Control (UAC) prompt appears, click "Yes" to proceed.
