No, I don’t. But I do have a few questions:

Is this event to PLAY badminton or to WATCH badminton? If it’s to PLAY, why do you need to “book [a] seat?”

What does the acronym AA stand for in English? Or is it Latin?

Can you tell me some of your “other” idols in life and why?

Derek,

Good questions.

As far as I know, AA means we go Dutch or  a Dutch treatment.  The other idols in our life can be some one you worship very much. For example, the US president may be some one you worship much much or David Beckham may be also some one's idol in football field.  Lin Dan is a super badminton play. So many fans worship him and call him Super Dan.  Do you think so?

Best regards,

谭廷庄/John Tan

No, I do not worship athletes, models, actors, singers, etc. I may admire their talents, but I do not worship. Admire would be the appropriate term. In English, we save “worship” for the “Gods.” Point noted.

And, AA means what in English??

For example: AA means Alcoholics Anonymous in UK and USA. You can’t use abbreviations without first identifying the original terms. But, so far, no one has been able to clearly identify the words for the acronym AA or how it relates to “going Dutch” – a term we don’t use anymore in the U.S. because it is politically incorrect (PI). In fact, many Dutch find it offensive.

Many have tried to “make up” words to fit the meaning of AA, but so far, no substantiation of the abbreviation. I suspect it’s just more Chinglish?? <<This could be your next speech. The origins of the term “AA”, but it will require solid research with verifiable sources. Otherwise, it’s mere opinions, hunches, guesses and assumptions.

Good luck, my sleuths,

P.S. Helen Duan: Can you tell me some of your “other” idols in life and why?

Indeed, we wouldn’t want to discuss or learn anything, would we?

Thanks, John Tan for the synopsis.

Something to ponder the next time you want to use the crutch “I’m busy.”

My Philosophy on Career and Life Balance

One of the most delicate, difficult balancing acts for most Chinese is finding equilibrium in work life alongside personal life and albeit untimely for the senior workforce, I encourage you to get your “career in gear” while steering it in the right direction although be cognizant of those things which may be detrimental or otherwise hazardous along the way, mainly your mental programming, but keep moving forward no matter what nuisances arise only looking back to reflect on lessons learned because if there is one single, salient principle to be remembered on this good, green Earth it is that life is often a nonsensical, constantly evolving trek, so you must continuously discover ways in which to obtain palpable pleasure from the journey as a means to rejuvenate the spirit, body and mind at the same time embracing the good, the bad, the ugly equally as living-lessons, all while allowing fate or destiny or whatever it is you believe in, to play its part, for it is well known that at times the best things in life transpire by chance without fallacious facades or predispositions, unlike via human design where we are inattentive to this self-attachment to our ingenuine, insincere, erroneous guise so as to vex our lifestyle by thought and deed as well as our natural, normal conditions of existence from which we become oblivious to the world around us and, as a consequence, cannot grasp what is truly happening on any given day, at any given time in person, place or thing for the simple reason that we have grown vicariously addicted to avariciousness choosing to live to work rather than work to live absent any analysis, rationale or logical validity, but instead, adopting passivism over enlightenment, fear over courage, and Machiavellianism over humility towards others resulting in a deep rooted psychosclerosis and spreading this contagious attitude to those around us including the ideology of “look busy, do nothing,” overuse of the crutch term “I’m busy”, and the belief that others should bestow something unto us pro bono, as any opportunist would expect, when it has not been earned, offered, or there is no consideration offered in return whether it be labor, knowledge, skills, abilities, talent, physical property, a person’s time, or a simple “thank you” from which to bind any form of mutual respect and agreement since the ability to conceptualize or self-reflect so we may “walk in someone else’s shoes” has long ago been abandoned and forgotten.
