For the purpose of this question, Hangouts chat means the interface that you access using the URL
chat.google.com, while Hangouts conversation means the interface that you access using
hangouts.google.comThe problem I'm facing is that, I have managed to send the Message to Hangouts Chat Room(
chat.google.com) by configuring an incoming webhook for that room. However the room that I had created in Hangouts chats is not visible in my Hangouts Conversations(
hangouts.google.com).

I sent messages to individual persons via Hangouts chat and hangouts conversations, I'm able to see them on both(both seem to sync and are visible on each other). However When I create a group conversation in Hangouts Conversations or when I create a room in Hangouts chat, I'm not able to see them on each other(the sync doesn't seem to work).
Also to give more context on sync between hangouts chat and hangouts conversations: I had mentioned the private messages get synced and show up on each other, however inside Hangouts chat in a one-on-one conversation if I use an incoming webhook those messages are not synced with Hangouts conversations and do not show up.
It would be great if someone could elaborate on the above questions or if suggest a way to show Hangouts chat inside a Gmail window. Since my team extensively uses Hangouts conversations, I'd like to see somehow they receive the messages sent via API
You can approve budget requests or fill out and submit update requests directly from the Smartsheet chat window in Hangouts Chat. Click Open Approval Form or Open Update Form to approve or deny an approval request or complete an update request directly from Hangouts Chat.
3. You'll be signed into Google Hangouts. To begin a new conversation, click on the "+" sign. To begin a chat, type in the person's name or email address. You can also start a new hangout group by clicking on "New Group" and then typing in multiple email addresses.
4. A chat window will open up, where you can begin typing your message. From here, you can also begin a video chat by clicking on the video icon; or a phone call by clicking on the phone icon. You can also start a group chat from here, by clicking on the plus sign.
If you wish to receive notifications from only hangout chats and not via Email as well, you can alter your notification settings by navigating to your Profile and Select Apps & Integrations. The above articles explain this in more detail.
I'm having a related issue. I have the chat bot installed and connected... but everytime I try sending myself an update or approval request it just comes in as a blank chat message from smartsheet bot.
Last year Google Cloud announced the upcoming transformation of Hangouts into two enterprise-focused communications tools: Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat. By dividing Hangouts in this way, Google Cloud is better able to provide G Suite customers with deeper functionality for video meetings and collaborative chat, respectively. Meet launched not long after that announcement, and today Google Cloud announced the public launch of Chat.
With Wrike for Hangouts Chat you can create tasks right in chats, enabling you to quickly get work into Wrike, where it can be better managed, tracked, and reported on. And, you can also edit and update existing tasks right in task previews, enabling you to easily get work done while staying in Chat and getting right back to the conversation.
So with Google discontinuing Hangouts and switching to Google Chat for Gsuite applications, I was forced to download google Chat. In the Fitbit app, under notifications, there is a list of a bunch of apps i COULD receive notifications for, and Hangouts is in there but Google Chat is not. I have been on live chat and don't seem to be getting anywhere because no one can tell me IF it is even an option. Has anyone else come across this?
Darn it, I for sure am only getting notifications for hangouts, even when receiving messages on chat. I appreciate your reply though! The one I use in Chat is a gsuite through work(up until todays' update, it was working fine with Hangouts and now Gsuite isn't supported), so I wonder if it has to do with Gsuite/Chat more than Hangout/Chat. I can't figure out what else it could be.
This job is a scam just like many others I saw posted here, unfortunately after I wasted my time and energy interviewing. They schedule your interview through Google Hangouts, then they don't even video chat, just message the whole time. I did not give up any really sensitive info, but as I read in some other posts, there was talk of needing to buy equipment with a check they send and apparently it ends up being a fake.
Agreed, an invitation to communicate outside Upwork - with no other red flags - is fine, so there's no need to freak out about that or impose a blanket ban. I talk to potential clients on Skype all the time; some people are simply more familiar with it and more comfortable using it than Upwork's chat room.
The process of making a post works fine for in dept questions but for small questions it would be nice if we could ask for help and chat as if we were in the same room/building. (Maybe this chat function has some requirements for practical reasons, like being around for longer than one day.)
I do not know if it is a feature or an issue. Maybe I am not seeing this situation as I should. My problem is that I have Hangouts on my Mac at home with Chrome Extension (Mac OS X 10.10), at my office PC with Chrome Extension (Elementary OS (Ubuntu based)) and in my phone (iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.3); and everytime someone writes me on Hangouts I receive the notification on these 3 devices. I find a bit annoying that when I am at the office chatting on Hangouts, my phone keeps ringing/vibrating because of notifications. Plus, at home anyone using the Mac can see the notifications and the conversation.
I had the same annoying situation. What I did: clic on "Options" in the chat window and uncheck "Notifications", then "Save". Now when this person talks to you, the only notification will be on the tab of the browser. I did it only with people I talk to frecuently everyday, if someone else is talking to me, I want notifications for sure.
So we were thrilled when the Google Cloud team reached out to us about integrating with Hangouts Chat. They recently launched their new enterprise communications tool (available to all G Suite customers) and wanted Aha! to be included in the first group of integrations available. Hangouts Chat currently supports 28 languages and can handle up to 8,000 people per chat room.
While most chatbots respond to user requests in a synchronous way, there are scenarios when bots don't perform actions based on an explicit user request, such as for alerts or notifications. In today's DevByte video, I'm going to show you how to send messages asynchronously to rooms or direct messages (DMs) in Hangouts Chat, the team collaboration and communication tool in G Suite.
What comes to mind when you think of a bot in a chat room? Perhaps a user wants the last quarter's European sales numbers, or maybe, they want to look up local weather or the next movie showtime. Assuming there's a bot for whatever the request is, a user will either send a direct message (DM) to that bot or mention the bot from within a chat room. The bot then fields the request (sent to it by the Hangouts Chat service), performs any necessary magic, and responds back to the user in that "space," the generic nomenclature for a room or DM.
Is there an integration for google hangouts chat? We are thinking of migrating from slack to google hangouts chat and were looking for a solution. Looks like if there is a space we could specify webhooks we can just paste where to send each card: -tos/webhooks
Just click the camera icon, highlight the relevant section of the graph, and type your message. Then mention hangouts- to send it to a room. You can share a snapshot with as many Hangouts Chat rooms, email addresses, and other collaboration tools as you like.In the example below, this user has highlighted part of the graph and included a message to provide more context.
When there is a new incoming message in a Google Hangout multi-person chat that I have joined, neither the Windows taskbar icon for the Hangout chat window nor the Hangouts icon in the Windows notification area / "system tray" flash or otherwise indicate that there has been a new message.
Beyond this as far as I have been able to determine this is a limitation of the browser based version of hangouts (GMail, Google+, etc.). Each time I tested this implementation the only time I got any noticeable notification was if I already had a chat started and in some way active. New chats and messages sent when Window was not the active window we not present.
However, I did try the same after installing the Google Apps version. Since this version acts like a normal installed messaging client it was able to pop the chat box up and able to generate active system alert sounds.
Until Google finds a better method for the browser based versions of hangouts you may wish to install the apps version by going to the Hangouts homepage and selecting the Computers option for installation.
I wasn't able to do any extensive testing, but the issue of notifications not showing seemed to be resolved in the short term (I tested with a co-worker by having him send me messages with the hangouts window both closed, open, and minimized).
Apparently at this week's big I/O conference, Google didn't show off all the fun features of the company's new multiplatform text and video chat service: Hangouts. If you've been thinking your chats have been a little too text-heavy, you can now decorate them with some animated animals.
