Meetings of NET2 have been mentioned a couple of times. The invite
from David Allen & Charlotte Pell to the next one follows:

Trapped in a Revolving Door
How one man’s experience became a model for recovery

Tuesday 28 June 2011, refreshments at 9.30am for a 10am start. 1pm
finish. The Royal Station Hotel, Newcastle. Lunch included.

This is a session about escaping from the grasp of two of the most
prevalent addictions of modern society: alcohol misuse and
conventional management approaches that fail.

In 2006-2007, the NHS spent around £405 million on treating alcohol
misuse. The cost to the UK taxpayer as a whole is currently thought to
be around £25 billion per year when all social costs are taken into
account. And yet, despite these huge numbers, people frequently drop
out of treatment or it is ineffective - trapping them in a revolving
door of treatment and pouring taxpayer money down the drain in the
process.

NERAF, an alcohol charity in the North East, has been called ‘The most
innovative alcohol service in England’ by Alcohol Concern. On the 28
June, using a blend of real life case studies, management ‘stuff’ and
informed critique, Kevan Martin (CEO) and Steve Hopkirk (Esh Solutions
Ltd) will tell you how one man’s poor experience became a model for
effective engagement and recovery. Starting with a handful of
enthusiastic but amateur volunteers, the NERAF story will tell you the
ups and downs of applying a ‘systems thinking’ approach in a
traditional fragmented organisational environment where people are
typically ‘sorted, batched and queued’ before being passed on to
somebody else.

Whatever the sector, if you have an interest in improving the lot of
your organisation, service or customer and, like us, recognise the
limitations of conventional approaches, then we’re sure you will find
this meeting an invaluable step on the road to recovery.
