Post-doctoral Fellowship at the National Eye Institute in Bevil Conway’s lab
The Conway laboratory at the National Eye Institute is seeking post-doctoral fellows. Our research aims to understand how retinal signals are transformed through the visual system into
perceptions and thoughts that can ultimately drive behavior. We often use color as a model system for tackling this problem, and deploy a range of techniques including fMRI in humans and monkeys, psychophysics, modeling, micro-electrode recording, and causal
manipulations in animal models. Links to representative papers are below. The successful candidate will have the chance to become involved in a number of projects, depending on their particular interests, and will also have the opportunity to develop independent
projects. The lab is part of the Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research (https://nei.nih.gov/intramural/lsr),
and we interact closely with investigators in the National Institutes of Mental Health. The NIH boasts exceptional resources for cutting-edge research, within a collaborative, diverse, supportive, and intellectually stimulating
environment. The fellowship will provide ample opportunities for the successful candidate to develop essential skills in experimental design, computational methods, scientific writing, and public presentations. Candidates from a range of backgrounds will be
considered, including backgrounds in biology, psychology, computer science, machine vision, neuroscience, and cognitive science. Ideally, candidates would have expertise in at least two of the following areas: color science (colorimetry, image analysis); psychophysics;
computer programming (Matlab, Java script, Java, UNIX); animal training; neural recording; analysis of neurophysiological single-unit data; functional MRI (in humans or non-human animals); and computational modeling.
The position requires a PhD and candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
Salaries will be based on experience and the NIH post-doctoral scale. The NIH is located in the Washington DC metro area, which boasts great restaurants, national parks, and the rich cultural jewels of the nation’s Smithsonian
museum system. Washington D.C. is also well-connected by metro and airports.
To apply, or for more information, contact Bevil Conway (be...@nih.gov). Informal inquiries are welcome.
To apply, please send a CV, a brief statement of your research or career goals, and names (and email addresses) of two or three references.
Oh, do you see red like I see red?
