Post-Doc Position at KU Leuven (Belgium): What is the role of the insula in interoception?

We are looking for a post-doctorate fellow in the context of a research project entitled “Co-localization and neuromodulation of interoceptive and emotional processes ”. This project combines functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electrophysiology, optogenetics, and autonomic bodily physiology with interoceptive and emotional stimuli in alert non-human primates (NHP). This project is a long-term collaboration between Wim Vanduffel (KU Leuven) and Henry Evrard (Nathan Kline Inst., Ctr. Integr. Neurosci. & Max Planck Inst., Intl. Ctr. Primate Brain Res.), with the contribution of international experts. The project takes place in Leuven (Belgium) and, depending on performance, the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to contribute to additional research projects in exciting research environments at the Nathan Kline Inst. (NY), and at the new Intl. Ctr. Primate Brain Res. directed by Nikos Logothetis and Mu-ming Poo (Shanghai).

Profile

We are seeking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual with a strong interest in studying the neural correlate of interoception and emotion in non-human primates. The candidate must have obtained a PhD in Neuroscience or related fields. In addition of excellent communication (English), synthesis, writing, programming (Matlab/Python) and experimental and analysis skills, either of the following qualifications are of interest to the project:

-       FMRI of the central representation of autonomic bodily physiology, in humans or NHP.

-       Intracerebral electrophysiological recording (spike/LFP).

-       Multivariate Data Analysis and Modelling for neuroscience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and running the experiments of the project, together with experts in training non-human primate for fMRI. The successful candidate will be supervised directly by Wim Vanduffel and Henry Evrard, offering training in both awake NHP fMRI and advanced structural/functional insights in interoception, respectively.

Offer

We offer a full-time post-doctorate position. The appointment, starting as soon as possible, is for 1-3 years, upon positive evaluation, and with possible extension. Review of applications begins May 1st and continues until the position is filled.

Interested?

For more information and application, email both Wim Vanduffel (wim.va...@kuleuven.be) and Henry Evrard (henry....@tuebingen.mpg.de). For an application, email both Wim and Henry with: a short letter of motivation, your CV, and the names and e-mail address of three references.
