Dear all,

a post-doctoral fellowship is available to work with A/Prof Stefanie Becker at the School of Psychology, The University of Queensland (St Lucia Campus), Brisbane, Australia. The position is for 1-year full time, or 2 years part-time (50%), with the possibility of extending it pending further funding. The deadline for applications is midnight December 17 in Australia, which will make it Dec 16 for most other countries. Start date is ideally Jan - April.

The School of Psychology at The University of Queensland is in the top 50 institutions world-wide on all major lists (e.g., QS, Times Higher Education), and features state-of-the-art research equipment, including multiple EEG systems (Brainproducts, Biosemi, Neuroscan, ANT Neuro) and two Siemens MRTs, 3T and 7T (at the Queensland Brain Institute, also on campus).

Primary Purpose of Position
The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting experiments on adult human participants as part of an ARC-funded Discovery Grant awarded to Associate Professor Stefanie Becker. The aim of the study is to gain a better understanding of the processes and mechanisms underlying attention, perception and awareness, in particular the neural mechanisms. The Research Fellow is expected to undertake independent and collaborative research projects, using a combination of behavioural testing (simple RT studies and eye tracking), and neurophysiological methods, including electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The position is initially for 1 year, with a view to extend it pending further funding.

Specific duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
•       Development and/or implementation of research projects addressing questions of the mechanisms underlying attention, perception and awareness.
•       Participation in collaborative research projects with other Chief Investigators where possible.
•       Management of research projects on a day-to-day basis, including write-ups of research projects, ethics clearances, data collection, analysis of data, as well as supervising students and research assistants in these activities.
•       Preparation and publication of scholarly papers.
•       Dissemination of findings at relevant local, national and international meetings
•       Supervision of graduate and post-graduate student projects.

Service and Engagement
•       Administrative tasks related to the day-to-day running of research projects, such as acting as lab manager for the EEG lab or one of the eye tracking labs.

Organisational Relationships
The position holder will report to Associate Professor Stefanie I. Becker, ARC Future Fellow, School of Psychology.


SELECTION CRITERIA
•       PhD (submitted or close to completion) in experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience or related area.
•       Understanding of and interest in the processes underlying human perception and cognition.
•       Strong methodological, analytical and statistical skills.
•       Experience in the conduct of experiments using EEG, eye tracking or fMRI.
•       Sound knowledge of the analysis techniques involved in EEG, eye tracking or fMRI.
•       Demonstrated ability to publish research papers in international, peer-reviewed journals.
•       Ability to contribute to research program development.
•       Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
•       A high level of drive, initiative, and enthusiasm.
•       Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to deliver conference presentations.

Qualification Verification
An appointment to this position is subject to the verification of the highest academic qualification from the conferring institution.
