Research Associate II Position in the Rutishauser Lab at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles)
A full-time research associate position is available in the Laboratory of Ueli Rutishauser in the Department of Neurosurgery & Center for Neural Science and Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. We are a mixed computational and experimental neuroscience laboratory studying human memory and decision making using invasive human electrophysiology. Principally we use single-neuron recordings in humans, combined with extensive behavioral and computational approaches.
Responsibilities: The applicant will join a vibrant and collaborative interdisciplinary research team composed of postdocs, graduate students, medical students, and senior scientists. You will participate in all aspects of ongoing research activities, including but not limited to; conducting experiments (with patients, intracranial recordings); acquiring, processing, and analyzing iEEG/single-neuron data; and reporting findings. You will learn and perform independently a variety of complex data processing and analysis steps and execute experimental procedures to support the objectives of ongoing research projects. The position also entails about 20% administrative responsibility to maintain participant records and help with day-to-day lab management.
Additional note: This position is well suited to gain research experience in a productive, stimulating, and supportive laboratory in preparation for application to graduate or medical school following an undergraduate degree (all prior occupants of this position are now in medical or graduate school). There will be numerous opportunities to contribute as an author to publications.
Qualifications: a BA/BS (or higher) in neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science, or related is required. Must possess excellent computing and quantitative skills, including ability to program in Matlab, R, Python or similar. Knowledge of and strong interest in systems/cognitive neuroscience is required. Prior research experience with analyzing electrophysiological or neuroimaging data is preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
