SystemJS and KarmaJS: TypeError: System.import is not a function

I am having no luck getting my SystemJS project to run inside of karma. When I load it up I get the error message in the title.

With limited debugging it appears the System object is not being loaded by KarmaJS by the time it reaches the karma-systemjs plugin. 

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It may be best to ask this question with the Karma SystemJS project.
