Dear All,

I had sent a summary of expense report which I had sent to you earlier. Attached for your kind information.

Please see the e-mail thread. To utilise the remaining funds, there is a plan to conduct system engineering challenge for Final year projects from all colleges unlike last time that was open for any project. I am in process of exploring if some-one from INCOSE can come down and give a overview to students about the System engineering concept to be used for the projects. With this background, the project competition for System Engineering will make sense.

A brochure will be prepared for the competition and will be sent to all Project co-coordinators of other departments and also across colleges.

Regards
Rangan.

Dear Rangan,

Unfortunately, we do not have a student version of the handbook.

For the previous competition, we had referred to “Part 3: SE and Management” section in Systems Engineering Body Of Knowledge (BOK) at http://sebokwiki.org/

The same could be explored for this year's competition too.

Regards,
Ramki

(Pl. ignore my previous mail, I hit on send before editing it.....)

Dear Ramki,

Thanks. It is a good idea for faculty to conduct an overview.

When I talk to students whom I guide for projects, I make an attempt to briefly introduction V-model and ask them to put in efforts to prepare requirements document, design document, evaluation reports etc.

We had plans to kick off the projects for final year students giving them guidelines on how project needs to be run, especially from development cycle perspective but it's not taken up yet. It would be great if we can introduce INCOSE guidelines ASAP, as the project has just started. Appreciate if you can provide any brief documents/ppts that has brief contents for a formal introduction. Or should we should prepare one?

In earlier discussions with some of you, I requested if INCOSE could have a student version of INCOSE document. The current documents are heavy and students may not have enough patience to read and appreciate. If it is a good idea, I am ready to collaborate to achieve the same.

Rangan.

Dear Ramki,

Thanks. It is a good idea. Last year, we had plans to kick off the projects for 8th semester with some inputs on development cycle but we could not do that. It is really good if we can have do such things ASAP as the project has just started.

When I talk to students on project start whom I guide, I introduce V-model and will ask them to make all efforts to write down requirements, evaluate and design before getting into implementation.

It would be great to have brief contents for a formal introduction say for a couple of hours. Anything available? or we should prepare one?

I  made a mention of it in earlier discussions whether INCOSE must work towards publishing a student version of INCOSE document as the current documents are heavy weight and students may not have patience to read, understand and deploy.

Dear Rangan,

As part of the competition entry guidelines, kindly explore a competition requirement that will require the faculty to conduct overview sessions on systems engineering for the participating student teams.

Thank you.

Dear Rangan,

I have spoken to Ramki & I am informed that we have necessary approval from INCOSE. I suggest that we make the announcement for an intercollegiate competition specifically for students doing their final sem projects.

Dear Dr. Venkatrangan,

I am okay with the balance sheet.

However, I am not empowered to decide on the retention of money for future use. This has to be decided by Rick and Ramki OR somebody else in INCOSE.

Subject:        Summary of expenses

Dear Ramki and Ramesh,

First of all, a very happy new year 2017. Hope you are doing fine.

Please find attached the expense sheet. Sorry that it took me a while to consolidate and send it. Let me know if there are any questions. I plan to send it to others as per you advise to ensure all are aware of this expenses.

An amount of Rs. 61,847 is balance that can be utilised for future programmes. Based on inputs from Prof Mahendra Nayak, we propose that we have system engineering challenge like last year but make an early announcement to target final year projects and make use of these funds. If you agree, we will make the announcement of this challenge in month of January which is the time for final year projects to start in many institutes.

The academic forum photos are available with me. I need to retrieve the same from a CD. I will send this to all and would like to follow up on the outcome/usefulness of the forum.

Thanks in advance......

Regards
Rangan.
