Dear Sir/MadamsUsing Systems Knowledge and Skills to Enhance Engineering Education for the 21st Century - Academic Forum, 8 November 2016, Bangalore, IndiaThe practice of Engineering in the 21st century has become much more focused on multidisciplinary teams working directly with stakeholders to create flexible, agile and dynamics whole system solutions. To support this, employers are looking for engineering graduates with a core of technical knowledge and skills, the ability to work as part of a team and a set of “systems knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs)”. These systems KSA include an ability to take a holistic view of the problem context, recognizing multiple stakeholder viewpoints, not being over constrained by current solutions and dealing with problems which are messy and uncertain. They also emphasis the generation of multiple technology, agile, cyber-physical solution alternatives, which fit with existing solutions and explore innovative new technologies, and are assessed against all relevant measures of effectiveness. Finally, systems KSAs promote a thorough life-cycle perspective on the design, build, test, deployment, sustain-ment, modification and disposal of complete system solutions based around the selected solution concept. We believe that the discipline of Systems Engineering contains many of the KSAs needed to do this and that some aspects of Systems Engineering have value in the education of ALL Engineers. The International Council on Systems Engineering (www.INCOSE.org) is working to enhance the value of engineering education to society and employers by increasing the integration of Systems Engineering KSAs into the Education of All Engineers. As part of this initiative we will hold an Academic Forum workshop at PES University, Bangalore, India, on 8 November 2016 (www.pes.edu). The event will be held in conjunction with APCOSEC 2016 (www.apcosec2016.org) on 9-10 November 2016 in Bangalore. The forum will be free to attend, but those wishing to participate directly in the panel discussions will need to register closer to the date. The forum will bring together Systems Engineering academics, engineering faculty and other stakeholders from the Asia Oceania region to share current work and promote new international collaborations. Please consider joining us to hear about how others are using Systems Engineering KSAs to enhance engineering education, or to share your own examples or experiences. Please let us know if you or your colleagues are interested in this event, by way of an email to incoseacademicforum@incoseaf.org.
Looking forward to your participation,
