Payam,
Our current form of validation has been primarily through a series of
stakeholder reviews. Early in the process, the reviews focused on the
requirements for the systems modeling language that were specified in
the UML for Systems Engineering RFP that was issued by the OMG in March
2003. Since then, the stakeholder reviews have focused on the SysML
approach and the extent to which SysML addresses the needs of the
stakeholders. There is a requirements traceability matrix in the
Appendix of the SysML specification that shows how each requirement from
the UML for SE RFP is being addressed by SysML. We are still in the
process of formalizing SysML compliance points that will clearly define
what it means for a tool vendor to be compliant with SysML. As we
proceed to the next phase of SysML, we will look to the SysML tool
vendors to validate that the SysML specification is implementable in
their tools, and we will look to continued user feedback to validate the
value of the diagrams to their systems engineering efforts. Thanks for
the question.
