Hello everyone,

I am a self taught novice looking for Systems Engineering software that is free or inexpensive. The book I have been reading, The Engineering Design of Systems by Denis M. Buede, recommends using Core 9 from the Vitech Corp., but their integrated software is too expensive. I am working with information systems. Specifically I need to define the functional, physical and allocated architectures, and model the system and sub-systems to ensure end-user requirements are met (VV&A). Core 9 encompasses all aspects of the development life cycle.

Can anyone recommend a comparable alternative?

Best regards,

Hello Uriah,

You can find selected lists of leading MBSE/SysML tools, including both
commercial (proprietary) and FOSS (Free & Open Source) SysML-compliant
tools, on the SysML Forum and SysMLtools.com webs:

SysML Forum Tools section:
http://www.sysmlforum.com/sysml-tools/
SysMLtools.com web:
http://www.sysmltools.com/open-source-sysml-tools/
http://www.sysmltools.com/commercial-sysml-tools/

In addition, SysMLtools.com contains tool-vendor-neutral articles on
"Selecting a SysML Tool for Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)" and
"SysML Tool Evaluation Criteria" that you might find useful in your
search for alternatives to Vitech Core:
http://www.sysmltools.com/category/article/

Best,

Cris

Check:

a.       Rhapsody (the SE version; inexpensive …)

b.      Topcased

Good luck

Hello,

you can use open source solutions like Topcased (http://www.topcased.org) or Eclipse MDT Papyrus SysML editor (http://www.eclipse.org/papyrus/) or Modelio free modules including SysML editor  (http://www.modeliosoft.com/)
Hope it helps,
best regards

Hello , i heard about openMBEE. But so for I could not figure out if it includes a modeling tool. I would like to model with SysML v2 in a open Source Modeling tool . Hope anyone can tell me more if this is possible with openMBEE.

Thanks!
